Calibration curves AS against log C were plotted for selenium samples with impurity standards in the presence of carbon powder containing various NaCl additions in the counterelectrode. The dependence of the intensity of the spectral lines on Vi eff a, determined. V i eff 7 - 8 ev, achieved by carbon powder with 1~o Ila (- 2.5~4 NaCl), was the optimum. The sensitivity increase results from the ratio AC - C without NaCl /C NaCl' For the elements , investigated, the following 6C values were founds Te 0.46; Eg 0.20; As 0-50; Cd 0-30; Mg 5.0; Ni 2.21 Al 5-5; Au 5-0; Pb 4.0; Bi 2.5; Cu 5-OlTi 54; Card 1/2 S/032/62/028/006/012/025 Increasing the sensitivity ... By a complete syntheiis it was possible to establish the structure of this alkaloid definetively. In the present investilgation it was succeded to produce the basic inter- mediate product of the synthesis Of the Jimethylether of magnolamine. By means of a condensation of the dichlorine anhydride of the 3,4 - dimethyloxy - 4,6 - dicarboxymethyl diphenylether (formula II) with - (3 - methoxy - 4 - benzyloxy) - phenylethylamine (formula III) the diamide was obtained (formula IV) the simultaneous closin,~ of the two iooquinoline ringn lead to the dichloric hydrate of the Card 112 3,4 - dimethoxy - 4",61 - Cbi - (6 - ml-thoxy - 7 - benzyl- InvestiCations in thu Field of The 3yxithL3i3 of the ',1ki-.1oid 7 9 - 12 - 155/4 Magnolamine oxi) dihydro - isoquinolylej - dime thij 1 7,heny 1 et her (formula V). A furth..?r hydration, a metiqlation and a removal of the benzyl residua must lead to the dioxymethyl- ether of the ma6-jnolamine. The 3,4 - dimethoxy - 41,6 - dicarbox.ymethyldiphenyletlier (formula II) --Ta3 produced by two methods. The further reaction proces5 is reprQsented by the formulae VI, VII, VIII, and IX. From this it appears, that a basic intermediate produ,~t of the 3ynthezis of the dimethylether of the alkaloid magnolwmine has been synthesized. There are 6 references, 2 of which are Slavic. In this paper, the authors consider the connection between capacitance of the foil sample to be formed and the linear forming voltage and also the direct voltage component in the tanks. Figure 1 shows the connection of 3 tanks for three-phase static forming of foils. The authors discuss the time re- quired for forming the foils, the final forming cur- U rents and the speed of oxide layer formation. The forming of aluminum foils was erformed in tanks with stainless steel electrodes steel lKhl8N9T). The electrolyte consisted of boric f acid (100 gr/liter)oand borax (0-5 gr/liter), and had a temperature of 80 C. As a rule, 60 min were re- quired for the forming process. Samples of 0.08 mm thick aluminum foils, 3X5 cm, having a purity of 99-95%, were subjected to forming. The data in Table 1 show that the final currents hardly depend on the forming voltage with three-phase f . ~; on the orm1n average they amount to 1.22 milliamp/cm Experimen- tal data confirmed that the final current density does not depend on the voltage. With three-phase forming the oxide layer is formed faster than with two-phase forming. PP 71 -- 76 (ussR) ABSTRACT: This is an investigation of the continuous-band-motion oxida-- tion of anode foil bands with single-, two-, and three-phase a.c. A counterconnection of the baths appears to be most con- venient. The utilization of troughs of conventional construc- tion for a.c. oxidation is possible only if the troughs are made of oxidation-resistant material, (as, for example, stain- less steel 1Kh18Nc'j*). The highest operational stability durine oxidation is achieved if one foil is pulled through counter- connected baths (as shown in figure 3b). With respect to an equal load distribution on the transformers a three-phase ox.- idation is very interesting. It gives, similar as a two-phase oxidation, an oxide layer of high quality. The oxidation of anode foils by continuous band motion by mi!ans of a.c. and Card 1/2 counterconnected bathe avoids the rectificatior of the a.c. If, Lowever, the sample is taken out of the electrolyte, this theory fails ii. the description of a number of its properties. This theory is especially not developed for electrolytic capacitors with solid electrolytes. The authors suggest a hypothesis that holds good for oxide films which are formed in weak electrclytes, if the former has a positive potential. In this hypothesia it is ansumed that a p-n- Junction oxiota, which is dootroyed with the formation of tin n-type semiconductor: 1) by remcving the voltage from the sumple, 2) by taking.the sample out of the electrolyte, 3) by applying a negative Card 1/2 84600 The Theory of Unilateral Condu-.tivity of an S/181/60/002/010/023/051 Oxide Film on Aluminum B019/BO56 potential to the sample relative to the electrolyte (in this case the defecta are in the oxide film)~ On the basis of this hypotheiis suggested by the authors. it is possible to explain the behavior of oxidized Al- samples in the following cases: 1) The voltage is removed from a sample dipped into an electrolyte. 2) A negative potential is applied to the sample relative to the electrolyte. 3) The sample taken out of the electrolyte is subjected to the action of various media and temperatures. 4) Onto the sample taken out of the electrolyte. a layer of p-type semiconductor or cf metal is applied. In this case, a large (reverse) current flows in the conducting direction of the oxide skin which is being formed, and more energy is required than when forming with d.c., or by other a.c. methods, and this, to some extent, impairs the quality of the oxide film because it is intensively Card 1/6 T1 Single phase formation of anodic "c/196/62/000/009/009/018 E11VE184 heated during the conducting half cycles. At the same time, tile voltage utilization factor K, which is the ratio of the voltage across the oxide film to the total voltage applied to the 'oath, is high - the whole voltage of tbe source of posver is applied across the oxide film with the exception of voltage drop in the electrolyte. Case 2 is possible if the bath is made of a material susceptible to a.c. (for instance aluminium), and the ~-i.:-:ace area of the bath is about equal to the area of the foil (,;- is a little less). With a.c. and a single bath, the oxide layer forms only during that part of the half cycle during which the current passes through the foil in the non-conducting direction for the oxide layer. The ionic current begins to pass through the oxide layer at an instant urhen the applied e.m.f. is greater than the back e.m.f. in the oxide film, which is proportional to its thickness. The authors call the time of passage of the ionic current L~.t, 'the absolute time of formation'. Inasmuch as Lt is a function of time of the a.c. forming period, full absolute time T during all the poriods can be calculated from the formula: Et - ~~ , where T t Lt dt is the time of formation of the oxide t L layer, T - full period of the forming voltage. Therefore, wbilzt a.c. is flowing, the instantaneous -'Isity of ionic current should be somewhat greater than wish Comparative curves are given plotting reverse capacitance voltage for d.c. and a.c. in the range up to 160 vQits the specimens are of the satite capacitance if the effective voltage vith a.c. is three quarters of the d.c. voltage (the forming ta%es place in aqueous solution 100 g/litre boric acid a-.id 0.5 g/litre borax at a temperature of 80 OC.). In the second case, film formation was studied with various ratio-q of foil to bath surface area. It is shown that, as the batli area is reduced, the consumption of electric current docreasos. Tho p;:*ob1em of comparing a.p, and d.c. processes is discussed. A.C. aud d.c. can both be conducted in throe ways: fir~iLly, at Card 1,/ 6 Single phase formation of allo(liC ... S/l96/62/0C0/009/(;09/OA-?, F1114/Z184 a constant turrent deiisity; secondly, at constant voltage; ar.6 thirdly, mixed, However, not all these ways are suitable for comparing a.c. and d.c. processes. In the first way comparison is difficult because with a.,c. not all of the current i.~; used 1'or the formation of the oxide layer. It has a considerable capacitative component, and the reverse current does not forAzi the oxide at all. It is ii-,ipracticable to utilize the third (mixed) way for comparison because it partially includes the first way. The most convenient is the second way - comparison at constitat forming voltage. The choice of the equivalent voltages for a.c. and d. c. can be made front the requirements of creating the saine capacitance of oxide layer - its niost stable and simply meauut-ed characteristic. In this case, other conditions being equal, t1io a.c. voltage U is considered eqUivalont to a d.c. voltage U, if the capacitarico of the samples being compared after formation is the same. 2 references. Although with an aluminium bath of extensive surface ZB I"-< j:Z there is no sharp increase in the reverse current with a.c. under tljer~e conditions because both the bath and the foil hzwe rectifying properties. Thus, the bath wid the foil being forr;ied in it comprise a system of two opposing electrolytic valves.
