TITLE'S Thermodynamic propertieg of nickel selenitPdihydrate
SOURCES Zhurnal flizicheakoy khimii, V* 37P no- 7, .19639 1563-1567
TOPIC TAGSs nickel aelenite d1hydrate, sodium selenite, nickel nitrate
ABSTRACTS Authors analyzed nickel selenits d1hydrate which is stable under or-
dinary conditions. In this work, the reaction heat of the interaction of nickel
nttrate with sodium selenite was measured in a calorimeter at 25C. After this
data was obtained, the standard heat of formation of nickel selenite dihyclrate
f m the elementary components was calculated* A further thermodynamic processing
of these findings with the incorporation of V. G., Chukhlantsev's data (Zhurn.
A '.lit* Khimiiq 12p issue 3t 1957, P. 296) with respect. to the solubility of
ckel selenita-made it possible to compute the change in the standard isobaric
tential during the forcration of nickel selenite dihydrate from the elementary
mponents as well awthe standard entropy of this salt. Orig. art. hast

Changes in the indices of nitrogen-protein metabolism of an organism
subjected to the effect of tracer and therapeutic doses of P 32 were stud-

The effect of Vitamin B, on anaphylactized animals
under the influence of ionizing radiation
Fiziolohichnyy zhurnal, v. 8, no. 6, 1962,~318-819
TEXT: Experiments were tiade t6 determine the effect of
vitamin BI on irradiated animals, using 30 guinea pigs of both
sexesy of weight 240-300 g, sensitized with normal equine serum
given subcutaneously at 0.1 ml. Re-injection was on the 19-20th
day, at 0.8 nl. Vitamin BI was given in the forra of 3'/j thiamine
bromide solution started 7 days before -re-injection, at 6 mg, sub-
cutaneously. The first serum injection was given 24 hours after a
total X-ray dose of 100 r. There were three experimental series:
(1) to determine the affect of vitarain BI on irradiated and subse-
quently sensitized animals; (2) on sensitized u-Limals which were
not irradiated; and (3) to determine the effect of X-ray irradiation
on'sensitized animals. Results showed that X-ray irradiation prior

tion ofc thiamine was also confirmed. Injection of B, into sensi-

ABSTRACTi From 1956 to 1958 the Loningradakiy tekhnologicheskiy institut
im. Lonsoveta (Leningrad Technological Institute imeni Lensovet)
has developed fortheGuBevdCiy Glass Works a radioactive thick-
ness gauge with continuous automatic recording of the measured
thickness of the rolled glass. The operation scheme of the
device is shown by figure 1. The effect of the thickness gauge
is based on the scattering phonomenon of the gamma quanta tho
rays of which are partly scattered in the passage through the
glass band. The intensity of the scattered radiation depends
on the thickneau of the material. The work performed at the
LTI showed that the number of the gamma quanta scattered by
the glass is almost in linear dependenoe of the thickness of
the glass (Figure 2). Experiments showed that in the case of

Runoff of Rain Waters From Takir-Like and Built-up Dense of T"alins
The author presents the results of observations, conducted in 1952
in the foothills of the western slope of the Kopet-Dag. The observations
on the runoff were carried out on a runoff area (20X160 m2) and on sites
with water-collecting areas 13.5 kW- (bililt-up loose loams and with
dense clays around 15%), 0.07 km2, and 2 km2, Ile established the nagni-
tudes of the runoff-forming rains under various conditions. He also
found the dependence of runoff upon precipitations in accordance withdata
of observations on runoff areas and on two watersheds. On the basis of
these dependences he computed approximately the runoff for *14 years.
The yearly runoff fluctuates in the limits 2.2 mm (for low-water ye,~r
1935) to 53-5 mm (for the high-water year 1906) with mean value of
