Treponema pallidum immune adherence test in sero-
diagnosis of syphilis POL.TYG.LEK. 1956, 11/48(2037-2040)
Treponema pallidurn immune adherence test (TPIA) according to Nelson's tech-
nique with slight modifications made by the authors, was erformed with 150 hurnan
sera, In untreated patients the test was positive In 14 of E01 cases of primary, in
16 of 17 cases of secondary, In 11 of 13 cases of latent, and in all 7 tested c;.ses of
late symptomatic syphilis. The test was positive in 20 of 40 cases oftreated 3yphil-
Is. The specificity of the TPIA was proved on 30 healthy students and on 23 por-
sons with diseases other than syphilis. In the former group all reactions we:e
negative, in the latter 2 reactions were doubtful. The authors express their opinion
that the wider application of TPIA depends on Improvement of the technique.

ABSTRACTs Certain problems are discussed which are associated with the design,
structure and operation of electronic synchronization systems and tripping devices
required when it 1B desired to record currents in the region of their pasaage through
zero value, and recovery voltages. A type of each device and their specifications
are dlscussed, in particular the time base tripping device in recording single and

i ABSTRACT: In 1963, repeated first-class leveling began for investigating the
vertical movement of the Earth' s crust in Lithuania. The plan for these opera-
tions provides for a number of closed polygons with a perimeter of about 400 km
and plotting them to the leveling points on the Baltic shore. The primary
-polygons are those in the western part of Lithuania. In 1963-1964, a line was
~run between Pagegyay, Kalypeda, Palanga, Liepaya and the depth gages of
K%laypeda, Shventoya, and Liepaya were tied to It. (Translation of abstract]

ABSTRACT: in 1963, the geodes department of the Kaunas Polytechnical institute star-
ted 'the laying out of I class leveling net for a study of vertical movements of the
earth crust, this work being repetitive relative to some former levelings in Lithuania.
The first class leveling project foresees establishment of closed polygons with appro
ximately a 400 km perimeter, the tying-in of the equalizing points on the Baltic shor;!
and a connection to the net of repeated leveling PNR. In line with the plan of work,
in which the Institute of agricultural constniction planning shall participate, first
priority is with the polygons of Western Lithuania . In 1963-64, the line Pagegyay-Klay.
peda-Lupaya has been laid out, and the benchmarks of Kla ds, Shventaya and Upaya
have been assigned to this line. (Translation of abstracT

ABSTRACT: The authors consider the characteristics of variation in the number of ex-
cited quasineural elements in a network consisting of 512 such elements ccmmunicating
with each other through a random system of stimulating Interconnections. An analysis
of the apontaneous activity of the network shows a periodic variation in the number
of excited elements in the form of undamped oscillations when the states of the ele-
ments and the interconnections are determined by uniformly distributed random numbers.
The pertod of the steady-state natural oscillations of the network is exactly equal to
the refracting period of the quasineurons if it is assumed that the duration of the
refracting period for all quasineurons is identical. If all parameters of thenetwork~

ara cons;tant, a variation In the initial degree of excitation may change the form of
the steady-state oscillations of the system. The spontaneous activity of the network
is essentially different from the operation of a network subjected to periodic excita-
tion frcso an external source. The periodic oscillations generated in the network in
this cave have a complex shape which depends on the relationship between the recur-
rence f~,equency of the excitation and the mfracting period of the quasine,.irons. If
rhythmic spontaneous oscillations are set up in the network, their period is indepen-
dent of: the number of interconnections and the threshold value of the quasineurons.
When or~Ly some of the quasineurons are subjected to periodic excitation, them Is a
transition process in the network followed by periodic oscillations which are a super-
pceition of the excitation frequency on the frequencies of the normal modes In the
system. Orig. art. has: 5 figures, 1 table, 3 formulas.

may apparently be explained by the exist-~-nce of imp-iritiez.
In the deposits of the lower carboniferois juart7 cry3ta.0
are found in coal-like minerals. These minerals are
characterized by their --igar-like shape, which i's unfrequently
found. The cross section ol t1hese cigar-shaj.ed cryot,L'.G is r,

organic substances. The above described quartz crystals were
formed in the course of exogenic processes under thermody-
namical. conditiong such as exist or. 'the surface of the earth-..
The here discussed expe.-imental data lead to the folic',ving
conclusionss 1) The quartz crystals in the coals are syngenetic
formations. 2) organic substances promote the formation. and
growth of aqueous- transparent quartz crystals if they are 3-,;re
to be accessible to the solution. 3) The organic medi=
warranted favorable conditions for the concentration of
acid solutions and for their overseturation. This is also
indicated as being probable by the large number of crystalliza'-4a,
centers in the intermediate layer. 4) Temperature ccLd_'tJ.cns

TITLE: Hydrofoil - the future of communication on water
rZarDDICAL: Horyzonty Techniki, no. 2, 1963, 6-9
TEXT: A brief review is given of the history, method of
operation and capabilities and advantages of this forta of transport,
in vLew of their development in US',% and the USSR and the current
inte:rcst in this problem at Politechniha GdaAwka (Gdafisk Polytechnic) .
Hydrofoils are classified into (1) passen5er-carrying types on inland
wate-.-:-s and on off-ahore areas of seas, (2) miscellaneous types (not
discussed), and (3) sea-going types, now in the process of develop-
ment. J'omc specifications of Soviet and Western bydrofoila are tabu-
lated. Group 1 is now being developed largely in the direction of
reducing costs and increasing performance and of reducing the depth
of immersion while in motion. Further developments of all types of
hydrofoils are thought. desirable and are envisaged in the near future.
There are 6 figures and 4 tables.
