The use of the EIS-1 apparatus was recommended for determining the levels and signs of distortions. It can also be used as an eleotron-beam oscillograph for wave-form measurements. A general switch interconnecting all radio-te.letype receivers, keyer lineg, and telegraph sets can successfully be used in connection with the E15-1 device for. controlling radio-channele and for location of faults. In discussing the keying technique, it was mentioned that due to pecul- iar field conditions a straight transmitting keying was used bypassing the receiving keyer, The use of an additional relay of RP-4 type -id -k ox ___-ACC-NRt__AF6009592 Inserted between the electron-tube keyer and the line at the receiving ,,end was recommended. The relay circuit was described and diagrammati- cally illustrated. This relay was also applied to the keying system " , formed either by a R-400-m telegraph set with a P-313 secondary circuit " ; 6j?,by a R-401-m set and P-314 circuit. The arrangement and operati ~" on 6f these two versions were briefly explained. The selection of anten ~.:fias was also dis cussed. An ordinary rod antenna can successfully be ~i.664. foradistanoes up to 200 km', while for ranges over 800 km a high- ~A!-i6ctiona'l. antenna of a vertical half -rhombic type was recommended. The observations were conducted-by the .specialists of the same military radio unit. The use of two channels -of.separated frequencies for the same transmission increased the relia- b1lity ofoommunioation. The proper selection of frequencies was con- bidered6 The possibility of applying a motor-starting device (described -. ,:by Tkachuk in "Tekhnika i vooruzheniye" no. 51 1962) to radio-teletype was discussed.. TITLE: Improvement in the Qgality of Bricks From Low Plas- ticity Clays (Pov sheniye kachestva kirpicha iz malo- plastichnykh glinT PERIODICAL: Stroit. materiely, izdeliya I konstruktsii, 1956, Nr 9, pp 24-25. ABSTRACT: The plasticity of the banded clays in the Neva region (Leningradskeya oblast) has the following limits: the "Krasnukho" clays, 9.5 to 11; the "Sinyukha" clays, 8.6 to 11.4; and the "Sizovka" clays, 19.9 to 33.8. A mixture of these clays, mixed in the ex0avation pit, had an overall plasticity of 11.2 to 13.8'and the products of this mixture Invariably developed massive fractures (up to 60 percent of the entire object or Card 1/2 article) during drying. To eliminate spoilage, it was Improvement in the Quality of Bricks (Cont.) 15-57-5-6590 necessary to increase the overall plasticity of the clays. Part of the "Krasnukha" clays were first discarded in the pit, thus * increasing the percent of "Sinyukhal' clays in the mixture. This selection raised the plasticity to 18.5 to 26 and the cracking was entirely eliminated. The author considers it unacceptable to reduce the plasticity to a value below 16. Other low-plasticity clays at the Krutyanskly zavod (factory) (Komi ASSR), which produced fractur- ing, were improved by the addition of plastic clays from other pits. Card 2/2 V. P. Ye. Class 19, No. 178393 SOURGEt Izobreteaiya, promyshlentWye obraztey, tovarnyye znaki, no. 3, 1966j, 28 TOPIC TAGS: bridges bridge construction, strucLural engineering, railroad bridge, cantilever bridge ABSTRACT: Titis Author Certificate presents a means for erecting railroad bridges of arched span construction front separate sections. Thd sections are suspended and joined with struts of the structure above the arch by temporary-sloping and horizont members. These members serve as.cross-stays and upper booms. The sections also feature a cantilever truss (see Fig. 1) with a triangular framing, the lower girder of which forms a acmi-archs The upper girder'of the cantilever truss is clot above the travel epanp which includes separate elements of the truss used in mounting and elevating the structure, These members subsequently form a triangular cantilever L 26377-66 ACC NRs AP60(Y7660 LOI .__ -_'. , 1 6 :,;, Fig. 1. 1 - upper string of the cantilever truss; 2 - struts; 3 - slanting memberol i lower string panels; anchor post; 6 key block; 7 - floor plates; 8 - cables; ?1--anchot block; 10 - tension cables;, JA join a. frame, cross-stays and aemi-arch sections. Each panel thus formed serves as a support for the next panel. The panels are rigidly fastened along the entire face., the process being repeated until the entire semi-arch is formed. Then cables are placed between the link sections and the support. When the ~.,ables are.tightened, the semi-arches are rotated with respect to the support section, ~ thus unloading the diagonal and horizontal members of the cantilever. The cables are removed, after which the travel-span plates are placed upon the structure above the arch between the link sections of the semi-arch and the support. When the wearing surface is completely laid, the remaininq part of the cables is tightened. Favorable working conditions for the support are created by freeing the support from one-sided loadings; assembly of the semi-arch takes place simultaneously on both sides of the pier, with each addition being a cantilever addition. The abutment portion of the semi-arch ia prepared in place between the first support block of the semi-arch and th6 pier. Forces in members of the cantilever are lessened by the introduction of stiffener cables in the upper girder at 1/2--2/3 of its design length. Moments in panels on the semi-arch are reduced through a skev9d-arrangemont of axes of diagonals relative to points of intersection of the axes of vertical members amd the aemi-arch blocks. Joints are placed between adjacenb semi-arches on the asaemb anelfy thus controilinj the'potition of cantilever frame in the span. lVil. ar East I figure.
