TEXT. many measurements have been performed to explain in detail the
effect of many parameters on the value of the critical resolved shear
stress, the effect of impurities being of*the greatest interest. The
authors give a more detailed discussion of this subject than has
.Previously appeared. It is apauned that during crystal-growth a
takes place-which is-connected with'-the existence of
a dislocation network* From this point of view the relation-between
-the critical resolved shear stress of zinc single.crystals and their
purity is investigated* For the evaluation the measurements made by
many authors on zinc single crystals were collected. Only those with
solutes: that,are soluble in the used range, iss, they form solid

Abstract : Students of higher nervous activity have encountered difficulties
in recording salivary secretion. Detailed description'of an appa-
ratus that records salivary secretion can be found in-literature.
This apparatus was developed by E. A. Ganike and improved by P. S. Ku-
palov. It became apparent to the authors of this article that addi-
tional changes were desirable. Improvements that they made enable
the op4~rator to note the exact amount of saliv y secretion. The
improved apparatus is a great contribution to the study of condi-
tioned reflexes. Diagrams'.

classified as a now chemical compound of the rubromycin-griseorodine
group. It is active in relation to ram positiye bacteria and acid

TITLE: Investigating ternary complexes of tantalum and niobi-
um by means of pyrogallol and addend III

TEXT: Tantalum- and niobium complexesq formed in the presence of
pyrogallol (H2Pg) and ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid (denoted in
the following by EDTA) w'j.,re studied by spectrophotometric methods.
The spectrophotometer (, _4( SF-4) was used. The absorption spectra
showed that by adding ED A to the solutions of pyrogallate complexes
of tantalum and niobium, new complex compounds are formed, having
characteriEtic (eigen) absorption bands withA max = 375 15U (for tan-
talum) and 480 n~u (for niobium). In order to determine the nature
of the EDTA interaction, the isomolar serieB EDTk-tantalum (niobi-

um) were studied in the presence of excess pyrogallol. Tantalum
(niobium) pyrogallate also absorbs light. It was found that EDTA
acts not only as a medium, but enters into the composition of pyro-
gallate complexes of tantalum and niobium, forming compounds in the
ratio EDTA:Ta (Nb) = 1:1. The three-component systems form ternary
compounds which have 2 different addends in the coordination sphere.
The formation of new absorption bands (under the action of the EDTA)
is apparently due to a change in the state of the central atom in
a reaction of type NbO 3 + H4YZ�NbOY +2H20 . Graphs show the effect
of pyrogallol concentration on the niobium. (tantalum) complexes and
other graphs show the effect of EDTA concentration on niobium (tan-
talum) pyrogallate. It was found that the dependence of 1 g
~Nb -Y Pg ml on 1 g EH Pg3 is linear with tgU-= 1; hence the num-

ber of moles of pyrogallol m = 1, which confirms the repults of the
isomolar series. Knowing the composition and the molar coefficients
of absorption (E (375 )-/E (480)= 5700) of the ternary complexes, it
