S/057/63/033/004/009/021 Simultaneous exposure of plasmoids to several focused rf beams placed in the plane normal to the direction of motion of the plasmoids was used to determine electron concentration in moving plasma. The method has a limiting resolving powek of the order of a wavelength and is suitable for plasmas with electron concentrations of 1013 electrons /cm3 and over. Plasmoids were generated by a pulse-type coaxial plasma gun; rf beams had wavelengths of 8 mm and, in some cases, 3 cm. The plasma gun was 50 mm in diameter, 200 mm in length; the quartz tube was 100 mm in diameter. The results of measurements showed that at a distance of 100 cm from the gun plasma fills the entire tube; at about 150- 200 ctn from the gun,a larger. plasmoid to preceded by a sinaller one. the first CEW4 1/2 AID Sr. 980-3.9 A *W By-wx sounns a Pumne [Cmtldj 13/057/63/@13/004/009/021 traveling at 10?cm-/sec, the second at twice this.speed. Zhurnal tekhnicheskoy fiziki# V, 36, no. 4, 1966P 640-642 TOPIC TAGS: xenon, recombination coefficient, plasma decay, microwave, ABSTRACT: The authors have measured the recombination coefficient of xenon at pressures from 20 to.600 mm 11C by following the decay of plasmas produced In P. glass vessel by gamma rays from 5 gsec pulses of I 14eV electrons on a lead target. The plasma'decay was observed with the aid of a 109 J(z klystron-type microwave rasonator made of thin wires and-mounted within the vessel. Ambipolar diffuuida to the wires composing the resonator was negligible at the xenon pressures employed. That the electron temperature equilibration time was short compared with the lifetime )f the plasma was, evinced.by the linear relation found between the reciorocal of the plasma density and the time of.decay. Spectroscopically pure xenon was employed, on, subjected to further purification In porous copper at 3000C and was dried in YOH and P205; it presumably contained less than 10-5% oxygen. The results of the meaiiurements are shown in the figure, where 10 times the recombination coefficient in cm3@-sec is plotted on the vertical axis against the pressure in mm Bg on the horizontal axis. An annular seal system cannot be analyzed as a sequence of jets. The critical pressure ratio for an annular seal system c cr =0.1 lies within the limits c lcr>ccr@'C 2cr* The gas flow in the annular seal system of an operating motor is of a pre-critical nature. The flow rate functions are different for different types of seals, and must be determined experimentally. TITLE: A Screened Measuring Chamber (Izmeritellnaya ekranlrov- annaya kamera) PERIODICAL: Izmeritellnaya tekhnika, lJL-.8, Nr 5, pp 67-7,-' (USSR) ABSTRACT: A screened measuring chamber must be built so that the extraneous interference level does not exceed , micro- volts throughout its whole measuring frequency range, and so that the voltage level of racio interference in the wiring of the circuits to which it is connected also does not exceed Z microvolts. The paper then carries computations for screeneu chambers from the standj`oint of screening ana of production data. A formula is given for effective screening. Then con- struction data are given for the chamber. kinaliy a device is described for filtering off' interference in the circuit. These filters are switched in to sugpress radio interference and have an effectivenss of 10 Card (100db) in all frequency ranges in which measurements A Screened Measuring Chamber SOV/11'0- --16 are taken.
