This consists of a cathode K , the auxiliary electroce Gl, a control electrode G2 and an anode. A small discharge w~:th a current of about 30 }tA was ignited between the cathode and the auxiliary electrode; the cathode was i'urnished d~rith a cone (Figure 1) which permitted the localisAtion of the auxiliary discharge. The t~~ro auxiliary electrodes were provided with holes (Figure 1) and the interelectrode distances could be varied from 0.1 to 2 cm.
