A 0.2~ lead additive does not improve the corrosion resistance of titanium. '.Lhe ex-
perimental data also show that a. film of titanium oxide on the metal surface improves
corrosion resistance in hyclxachl.oric acid with and without chlorine saturatiGn. it is
shown that repeated exposure in an oxidative medium (chemical passivation} may be us6d
for improving corrosion resistance. This property of titanium is especially impo:ua.nt
for industrial equipment which operates intermittently, e. g. in emergencies or duriz:g
periodic repairs of equipment when it is exposed to the effects of humidity and atmos-
pherie oxygen. Titanium may be reeovunend:ed for equipment to be used with concentrated
hydrochloric acid saturated with chlorine at 20 and a0C and far columns and condensers
to be used in a gaseous meclium of HC1-H~0-C12-CC14 at temperatures above 100C where ~
the temperature limit depends on the concentration of water vapor in the given system.'

TITLE: Titanium ~s a structural material. for prnduc~tion of chlorinated hydrocarbons
by chlorinolysis of aliphatic C1-C3 hydrocarbons
SOURCE: Chemicky prumysl, no. 2, 1966, 8$-91
~'OPIC TAGS: hydrocarbon, titanium, chlorinated aliphatic compound, hydrochloric acid,
chlorine
ABSTRACT: Titanium is studied ae a structural material for production of chlorinated
hydrocarbons by high-temperature chl.or:inolysis of gadseous aliphatic hydrocarbons. The
resistance of the metal to corrosion in the LrCI~-H~O~~C12~CCi4 system is studied at vari
ous temperatures for various ratios of eomponent;s. Bath pure titanium and titanium-
-lead alloys (0.2~ Pb) were tested. The specimen; were tested in Erlenmeyer flasks in
chlorine water at 20 and $0C and in hydrochloric acid with and without chlorine sa-
turation at 20C. The aggressive medium was replenished with gaseous chlorine every
21~ hours, Tests were also made in special equipment. at temperatures above lO(}C for
corrosion resistance of lead-free titanium, The xe~-ults show that chlorine di.ssalved
in 2~ydrochlaric e.e3.d Increases the resistance of titanium to corrosion in thi.e meddum.

pseudocroup-acute lar gotrar.heobronchitis s
viruses. yndi ome, l;;ave been tested for respiratory
Virus Isola ion was attemppted in k23 cases, antibody response eras determsned!
in 229 serum pairs. Isolated were 2b1 virus strains in t e folloVrin tage
distribution: pparainfluenza type 3, 3~+.1~; RS virus 23. g perce~
influenza ty, 1, 1.1~. It was possible to base an e ~' adenovirus 17.6; para-
virus isolation and serological test in 1?8 cases, ontvirus~isolationosis on posh
cases, and on serological, test alone in 58 cases. The irrununolo~icalnreaationnamong
paxainfluenza types, the double a.rr~rntrnc responses, the problem of recurrent pseudoerou~,, .
as well as the etiology of cam licated cases are discussed.
