The incubative stage of experimental leprosy in rats depends on
both the nature ~]d extent of the infection. Clinical synptoms be-
come evident 5-12 months after the infection. The author describes the
progress of experimental leprosy in detail.

have been made at wavelengths of 60 and 89 cm on a klystron

Figures ~ and 5 have axes of first reflector and resonator

Figures 6 a~ud 7 against exit phase. Table i compares
theoretical and experimental values of wavelength for the
strongest mode. When the first reflector is positive the
error does not exceed 19%; when negative not more than 50%.
The appendix derives rigorous expressions for: flight

conversion zone~

Abstract :
In 215 ides from the basin of the Nuryand S~ry-Su Rivers
and the Irgiz-Tur~ybasim, 31 species of parasites were
noted. The parasitofa~n~ includes parasites specific for
ides (Dactylog~r~ tuba and others) and parasites common
to ~ny carp fishes. These parasites pathogemic to ides
were noted: D. tuba, D. alatus fo~.~ major: adolescaria
strigeid-- Diplostom~lum spathaceum, D. clavatum; crus-
tacea-- Argulus foliaceus, Ergasilus sieboldi an~ others.

ABSTRACT: The corrosion resistance of argon-shield arc-welded seams of pipes made
KhlTN13M2T steel, which are widely used in processes involving fatty ac/ds, was tested
to evaluate the applicability of such pipes in certain branches of the petroleum and crude
oil industries. The corrosion resistance of pipes 1. annealed at 1050C as in the re~flar
manu/acturing process, 2. additioually annealed at 870C, and 3. additionally annealed at
1100C for 3 hrs. with nubsequent water quenching, was determined In acetic, caproie,
caprio, stearic and sulfuric acids and H2S-saturated 0.03N hydrochloric acid. In addition,
the weld-seam resistance to intercrystailite and point corrosion was tested in a sulfuric-
acid solution of copper sulfate and by determining the protective-fiLm failure potentinl in

conditions, the corrosion rate of the weld seam was practically identical to that of the
base metal, varying from as low as 2-30p to 33mm/yr. (60% H~SO4). These pipes can be
recommended for use in the petroleum indurtry. The pipe was f'nanhfactured at the

Crystallophosphors based on cadmium sulfate were Studied by the
method cf thermal analysis. It was discovered thatmdmium sul-
fate can exist in several grystalline modifications. After
the escape of water at 200 C, alpha-modification is formedi
beta-modification is stable in the range of temperatures from
500 to 730Oci gamma-modification arises as a result of the
first high-temperature effect and readily passes over into
beta-modification at cooling.
On the basis of crystalline modifications of cadmium sulfate
various luminophores, including C~804_Mm, were synthesized aud
their properties were at.died. ,

It was concluded that changes of luminophores based on cad-

The polymorphous transformation of cadmium sulphate was in.-
vestigated by differential-thermal, crystal-optical, X-rsy-
structural, ~ud l~uninescence analysis. From the heating curves
it has been found that cadmium sulphate forms some crystalline
modifications. When cadmium sulphate is dehydrated at 800o it
forms the a-modification, which remains stable up to 500 and
is then transformed into the ~-modification, which remains
stable up to 735 and is transform.~d into the y'-modification
above 735. The s-modification is not uniform s_nd consists of
two moclific~tions having different refraction indices:
N = 1.635 an~ N = ~.592. The thermographs of the cadmium
sulphate preparations obtained by different methods reveal dif-
ferent crystal structures;so that ~hey are not identical. The

The Special Nature of the Crystal Structure of Cadmium Sulphate
influence of various activators (:3uch as manganese, lead, and
samarium) on the structure of cadmium sulphate ha~ been in-
vestigated. It has been found that the activators exercise a
decisive influence on the polymorphous transformation of
cadmium sulphate and cu its structure. Uanganese stabilizes the
~'-modification of cadmium sulphate. The ~--modifica~ion can
eas~y be obtained in the presence of a manganese activator.
Lead and samarium activators do not cause a difference between
the ~- and ~-modificatons in the structure ef the preparatonso
The spectra of the cathode luminescence of CdSO4-N~ were reeorded
and are shown in figuze 16. The spectra of the m- and ~-modi~
ficatiens are almost identical. The ~'-modification differs
from the m-modification with respect to the character of the
luminescence There a.-e 16 figures, ~ table, and 6 references,
5 of which are Soviet.

TITLE: Valence of the Manganese Activator in Grysta& Phosphor~
PERIODICAL~ 0ptika i spektroskopiya, 1960, Vol 9, No ~, pp $78-~81
TEXT: The valence state of the mangane~e activator was
determined in a large number of crystal phosphors This state
was obtained by a chemical method: the total content of
manganese was found, as well as the content of manganese with
valence greater than 2 T~.e results are given in Table 1
~ULrS phosphora with the average valence of 2), Tables 2 and ~
(25 phosphors with the av~r~oe valence great,er than 2) These
results showed that~ l) in all phosphors with green and yellow
luminescence the average valence was 2; 2) phosphors with
orange-red and red emission had manganese with the average
valence of 2 or greater than ~; S) there was no unique
relationship between the average valence and the ionic radii or
structure of the crystals
