(from aqueous alcohol). IVb, mp 210-2110, is ob-
tained by a similar procedure. IVa and NH20H
'%VII) on heating in alcohol in a sealed test tube
for 10 hrs at 700 (see W. Krone, Ber, 24, 634
(1891)) give Ia, yield 100%, mp 1820 (decomp; from
alcohol). Ib is obtained by a similar procedure
mp 1840. VIa is obtained in yields of 30% (mp 9ho)

a sealed test tube at 700, Ha (mp 1390) is ob-
tained by the evaporation of the reaction product
at about 1000. IIb is prepaked by a similar pro-

TITLE: Refractory steels and alloys in the manufacture of
turbo-blowers

TEXT: The report deals with investigation of the properties
and the technology of working and treatment of refractory steels
and alloys intended for the manufacture of turbo-blowers. The
properties and applicability of the formed steels Poldi AKRE and
Poldi AKRN in the case of composite, welded, axial turbine wheels
(shafts made of low-alloy steels, blades made of austenitic
refractory steels) and the properties of refractory steels and
alloys LVN-1 to LVN-5 for precision castings and working of these
alloys (friction weldinS, ar c welding in a protective argon
atmosphere) are described. The results are given of tests-of
experimental turbine wheels which were achieved on the test stand

TITLE: A small-depth passenger motor-ves.sel on under-water
wings

TM Running tests of the first "PAKETV ("Raketa") type
small-depth motor-vessel were carried on the Sozh and Dnepr rivers
at the close of 1959. The vessel differs from the basic (serial)
ty e in the structure of the propelling-complex and the rudder:
(1@ the propeller*is placed above the stern wing in a special water-
collecting peak and is removed astern by three frame-spacings;
.(2) the plaoe of the main engine ia changed; (3) the rudder height
is decreased and its length increased. The load was decreased by

2.43 tons by reducing the number of pasiengers (from 66 to 48) and
the amount of fuel (by 400 kg). The small-depth "Raketa" made its
first test trip over the Gomel'-Kiyev-Gomell course in November 1959.
There were 30 persons and 1400 kg of fuel and oil on board. The
distance of 334 km. was covered with an average speed of 44.7 km. per
hour down stream and at 46.5 km per hour in the other direction. The
rudder mechanism was augmented by a hydr aulic servo-mechanism as a
result of this test. The vesseL was commissioned in June 1960, with
a,)iseful load. of 5200 kg (45 passengers, a crew of 7,.200 kg of food-
stuff, and 1100 kg of fuel). Not less than 90 seconds were required
for elevating on to the wings. The engine developed at this moment
1650-1700 rpm and was loaded to the limit. Some faults were observed.
The vessel was modified. "PAKETA-02" ("Raketa-02") developed an avera-
ge speed of 44-56.7 km per hour with a useful load of 6950 kg. The

average engine power was 800 HP. The number.of revolutions did not
exceed 1630-1650 rym4 The vessel elevated onto its -Angs at.36 km
per hour aftor 45-50 sec. at 1700 rpm and without reaching the maxi-
mum loading. At less than 1350 rpm the vAeael descended into the
water. The serial production of the smail-depth "Raketa" is worth-
while. There are 4 figures.

Abstract: A method of bre@)ding and rearing bacteria-free piglets
at the Ynstitute of PlicrobioloF,,y of the dzechoslovak Academy of
Sciences is described. The piglets are born by hysterectomy and
kept in isolated rooms made of laminated glass. Non-antigenie
diet, containing food required by the animals consists of casein
hydrolysate, lactose, glucose, olive oil,choline chloride, vitamins,
and mineral salts. Sterile conditions are maintained by using per-
