The former two vinyl acetylenes, penten-3-ine-1 and 2-methyl buten-l-ine-3,
were found to add the halogen alkyls in such a way that the radical combines
with the outermost acetylene carbon atom of the conjugated system, giving
mainly diene halogen derivatims with a small allene impurity. The third viml
acetylene homolog, pentei~.-1-ine-3, adds, contrary to the former two, the
halogen alkyls both to the outermost ethylene-, and to the first acetylene
carbon atoms, forming as well mainly diene h&logen derivatives with a small
allene impurity. It may be concluded from chemical and spectroscopic results
that electron displacements in the molecules of the hydrocarbons studied do
apparently not influence the mode of addition of halogen alkyls. The triple
bond was found to be more reactive than the other one. Steric hindrance,
however, may cause a partial addition to the ethylene bond. Addition of
hydrogen bromide to 2, 5, 5-trimethyl hexen-l-ine-3 in the presence of
gives a bromide which is not identical with the addition product of

selectively at the acetylene bond apparently yield n-complexes. Addition of
halogen alkyls will give the following complexes:

Vinyl acetylene amino (III), in the molecule of which a conjugation exists
between the electron pair of the nitrogen atom and the enin system, showed
a very large dipole momentg whereas saturated and unsaturated amines with-
out such a structure have small moments (Refs. 7, 8, 9)
Yr-
HC =_C-CH=CH-N(C2H5 )2 (111) . This agreement between the changesto be
expected for the dipole moments under the conjugation effect and those
observed in experiments, support the authors' assumption on the electron
displacement in 1,3-enin systems. VJLnyl acetylene amine (III) adds bromine
primarily to the triple bond. This corresponds to that electron polariza-,
tion which might be assumed from the magnitude of the dipole moment
(Ref. 12). Consequently, a certain dependence exists in some cases between
polarity in the steady state and the reactivity of the derivatives of
vinyl acetylene hydrocarbons. There are 2 tables and 13 references;
7 Soviet, I US, and 5 British.

Dipole Moments and Reactivity Of Vinyl Acetylene Ketones

PERIODICAL: Zhurnal obshchey khimiiq 19609 Vol. 30, No. 7, pp. 2248-2250
TEXT: Following their papers (Refs. 1-4) 0 the interpretation of rules
governing the reactivity of vinyl-a22-tLlsne hydrocarbons, the authors
determined the dipole moments of two vinyl loetylene ketones,(I) and (II),
of different structuresg and of amine (III). The dipole moment of ketone
(I) was found to be much larger than the moments of methyl-vinyl ketone
(Ref. 5) and mesityl oxide (Ref. 6). The dipole moment of ketone (II), with
moments of the carbonyl group and of the enine system opposite to each
other, was lower than in the case of methyl-vinyl ketone. The same ratio
also existed between the polarizability of these ketones (Table 2).

ABSTRACT: Some publicatLcna are available on the investigation of the
reactions of diacetylene with riucleophilic compounds (Refs 1-3).
But only brief data are published with respeet to ail addition
of amines to the diacetylene without detailed characteristics of
the resulting prod-acts (Refs 1, 4). The authors found that
diacetylene adds the dimethyl and diethylamine in benzene
solution already at low temperatures and without catalysts to
give the tertiary vinyl-acetylamines. The structure of these
amines was confirmed by their infrared spectra. Intense
frequencies of the conjuoated vinyl-acetyl grouping
- CH == CH - 0 =- CH were found in them (942,1610-1620, 2072 and
3288 cm71). The amines synthesized are colorlers oils which
rapidly turn brown on standing and corrode the skin. The

others only a small change, ~Blood coagulation (Quick test) did not show appreciable
changes. The value of ACTk treatment of hyperbitirubinaemias. especially those
of hepatic origin, is discussed with reference to personal experience. Long-term
treatment with ACTH is particularly suitable for chronic hepatitis, but should not
be used in more severe cases of atrophic cirrhosis. A transient rise of blood bili-
rubin after the first doses of ACTH (short-term effect) does not mean that lone-
term treatment will not be succeseCul.

Long-term and short-term eftects of ACTH in hyperbilirubinaemia of various ori-
gins were studied. After prolonged administration of ACTH (25 mg. /day for 15
days) a significant fall of bilirubin level was noted in 90% of patients. In cases of
cirrhosis and pseudo-Banti syndrome the fall was transitory. in the majority of
cases of chronic hepatitis. however, it was persistent. Blood bilirubin levels were
determined several times in the 24 hr. following a single dose of 75 or 100 mg
ACTH. In approx. one half of the cases there was a striking rise of the bilirubin level. in

group the inflammation is influenced by Xrays (furuncle, carbuncle, hidradenitis,

airtight furnace to below 100 0C; 7) storing of the block in
a protected spot of the workshop until complete coolin& has been
aciiieved. The aim was to verify to what extent and for how long
it was necessary to retain the block in the forging furnace
(regeneration type 6 750 x 4 200 mm; height of the working
space 4 150 nim,
with 4 burners fitted along the lateral walls,
burninZ unpurified producer gas )f 1 700 kcal/m to achieve an
equalization of the temperature throug
0 ,hout the cross-section at
850 and 650 C, respectively. A considerable number of the
... easured values are tabulated. On the basis of the obtained
results the following revised process of heating and cooling is
proposed: a) 0 cooling from the final forging t7emperature down
to 250 - 300 C in a tight furnace, the temperature-monitoring
being affected by means of contact 0thermocouples or temperature
crayons -, b) heating to 850-870 C for 18 h during which the
surface temperature must not exceed 900 0C or drop below 800' 0C
and then holding for 35 min; c) cooling in the closed and
tightened furnace down to 250 - 300 OC; d) heating to 650 OC
Oneasured by a thermocouple lowered to the surface of the block)
for 15 h and maintaining at this temperature for at least 60 h;

the individual phases-of the cooling process and a safe annealing
process was i-torked out, from the results obtained, which could
be realized in practice. The composition of the material was as
follows: 0.3l"' C, 0-505' YIn, 0.255. Si, 0-01350' P, 0.0211110' S,
1.550-'. Cr, 2.220, 1~i, o.47,iv, Mo and 0.140' V. The block was forged
.Lrom an in-ot weighing 105 t into an octangle with an internal
diameter of 1 850 mm; a journal for upsetting was forged from
the head of the ingot. The block dimensions are shown in Fig.1
and the location of the holes for accommodating the thermocouples
is shoi..-n in Fig. 2. The process of cooling was as follows:
1) char(rinn- into the furnace after forging and equalization of
0
tae teniperature to 850 C; 2) cooling to below 300 OC inside
the closed furnace,i,-rhich was made airtight, and maintaining at
this temperature until the temperature had equalized;
3) heating to 850 - 870 OC and maintaining at this temperature
until equalization was achievod; 4) repeating as per (2);
5) heating to 650 OC and holding at this temperature until
equalization -;-jas achieved; 6) coding in the closed and
