area,, and an analysis of what a properly organized air transportation service

terminal of Ust'Kut and the industries is advocated. The prospect of increased
service by the n-12, 11-14 and the M-2 aircraft, to be withdrawn from main air
arteries is velcomed, but the author pontends that even the newest equipment, such
as the AN-10,, could be efficiently used. A3.:'Jwugh freight rates on local air
routes have been reduced recently, they are still practicAlly prohibitive, so
that eir transportation is resorted to in cases of extreme necessity. Only
4 percent of total transportation is carried by air. The author uses the contention
of major airemft designers - 0. K. Antonov and s. v. n,yushin that the new turbo-
prop airliners are cheaper in operation than piston-elaid aircraft, to suggest
their use for mass transportAtion of ores, raw materials and other technical cargo.
He refers to the present difficulties in fptting the muscovite from the mines to
the industries. Pack animaJ am still in use in some places, especially during
the spring and fan slush periods. 7he author relates the attitude of the Economic
Ccnmail that the most effective means of transportation of muncovite between the
establishments of the Nhmalyuda Trust would be the helicopter. 7he Council has
slated for them about 3#ODD tow of cargo for this year. A 10 percent Increase in
air transportation vitJdn the area is planned for 1958.
