(Russian) P4jqOD1CAL Zhurnal Eksperi-mentallnoi i Teoret.Fiziki, 1257, Vol 32, Nr 1, pp 165-166 (U.S.S.R.) Received 3/1957 Reviewed 3/1957 ABSTRACT At present the reactions of the ty-pe (d,p) have already been in- vestigated for many isotopes of light nuclei. However, in the case of most of the investigated nuclei (with the exception of the very lightest) experiments were carried out only at a value of the energy of the inciding particles. At the same time the investigation of the form of the angular distributions of the products of such reactions at different energy values of the Impinging deuterons is of interest for the more precise description of the theory of the stripping reaction. Therefore the authors determined the angular distributions of these protons which are produced on the occasion of the reaction S34(d. 933 at deuteron energies of 1,8 and 3,8 MeV. The electrons accelera 'd with a 72 cm cyclotron bombarded a sulphur target (of 1 micron thickness) which was applied to leaf-gold. The protans produced in connection with the reaction were recorded by nuclear plates. Angular digtributions were determined for two groups of protons po and p1, which correspond to the creation of a nucleus (in the end Card 113 PA - 2036 The Angular Distribution of the Products of the Reaction 334 (d p)S33. state, in the ground state, and in the first excited state). The experimental results obtained by the authors are shown in diagrams. For reasons of comparison these diagrams contain also the correspond- ing theoretical curves. The theoretical curves determine the position of the main maximum (i.e. of the maximum in the case of small angles) well in the angular distribution of the proton group pl. In the angular distribution of the group po the experimentally found maximum was somewhat broader than the maximum computed theoretically, and besides it is displaced in the direction of smaller anglesf This broadening of the peak and its displacement are considerably more marked in the case )f a deuteron energy of 1,8 MeV than for 3,8 MeV. A characteristic pezaliarity of the angular distributions obtained here is the exister-e of comparatively high maxima. These secondary maxima increase with a decrease of the energy of the inciding deuterons. Also in the angular cListribution for the group p, some- thing similar may be observed. When explaiming the peculiarities of the experimental angular dis- tributions obtained here, it is necessary to take also-Coulof Is interaction into account, because the effective Coulomb barrier of the B32 nucleus amounts to 5,1 MeV for deuterons, However, con- Card 2/3 PA - 2036 The Angular Distribution of the Products of the Reaction S32 (d,p)S33. sideration of Coulomb interaction displaces the main maximum towards larger angles and causes no noticeably secondary maxima. Better agreement is apparently obtained if not only Coulomb's interaction but also nuclear interaction of the emitted proton with the remain- ing nucleus is taken into account. Abstract: [Author's English summary modified] 1he author reports procedures and findings of a study which determined, in the first part that vital capacity of lungs in normal individuals varies with the method of determination, and in the second part that the presence of H2S in the breathed air diminishes the vital capacity of the lungs for healthy persons. SCV/17/5-58-6-30/41 AUTHORS: Vershkov, E., Enginper-Colonel, and Marketoy Y., Engineer Lieutenant-Colonel TITLE: The Purification of W.1 PERIODICAL: Tqnkist, 1058, Nr 6, pp 45-47 (USSR) ABSTRACT: The authors state ti.at lubricating oi]Sused in internal combustion engines lose their original qualities during the working process. These chan- ges are caused by an accumulation of impurities and also by the influence of hiGh temperatures. The sediments in the motor oil are composed of oil - 80-85 %, water - 5-10 %a, fuel - 3-5 %, ashes - 3-4% and products of oxidation of oil and fuel. Admix- tures of a mechanical nature are most dangerous for the machine working parts. They might disturb the normal operation of the enr-ine by accelerating wear of working parts. The lubricating system of the Card 1/3 B-2 type engines includes filters of a rough-clean SOV/175-58-6-30/41 The Purification of Oil and fine-clean types. The first is able to stop mechanical particles of 75 microns, the others - of 60 microns. The oil cleaning may also be done by centrifuging. Centrifugal separators may have either hydraulic or mechanical drive. The first, mounted on a type DT-54 tractor, are used for clean- ing oil in tractor engines. The second - for oil cleaning in vessels and stationary Diesel engines. Centrifugation is applied for the periodic cleaning of lubricating oil of tank engines. For this pur- pose, an NSM-2 type vertical centrifugal separator of uninterrupted drive is used. The arrangement of the separator is shown in the diagram (Figure 1). Prior to the cleaning operation, th 8 oil must be heated to a temperature of 80 to 85 C. This is necessary to reduce its viscosity. The main parts of the separator (Figure 1) are centrifuge, electric Card 2/3 motor, electric heater, two-stage pump, friction SOV/175-58-6-30/41 The Purification of Oil coupling and base. Officers Pavlov and Borisov have produced a mobile oil cleaning unit shown in a drawing (Figure 2). It is in the form of a two- axle car. The entire oil separating equipment is mounted on the car. It includes a type "PN-28.5" d.c. electric motor of 2.2 kw capacity. Operation of the assembly is directed from a control panel shown on a drawing (FiGure 3). Switches, a control bulb and a starter are mounted on the panel. There are 2 photoGraphs and 1 sectional diagram. Card 3/3 MARKATOV. M., in2h.-pod-polkoynik Synthetic raterials.
