Clinomoters land instruments of that type have proven to be the most reliable, ;ensuring measurement to 0.1 micron under static conditions. It is suggested that, in evaluating water-power resources, the peculiarities of loagit4dir-Al profiles be considered as a basis for area classification under complicated orographic conditions. Profiles of the Kola-Peninsula rivers and their erergy characteristics are presented. Bibliography: 4 items. A. P. T. Card 1/1 X&RKOV, P. I. TITLE: The Interaction of 9 Bev Protons with Nuclei in Photo-Emuslion (Vzaimodeyetviye protonov s energiyey 9 Bev a yadrami foto- emul'Bil). PERIMICAL: Atomnaya Energiya, 1958, vol. 4, Nr 3, pp/ 281-284 ABSTRACT: The photoemulsion HtJK+14-P witha layer of about 45o was irraidated with protons within and out of the vacuum c-Lber of the 9 Bev synchrophasotron. The mean range of 9 Bev pro- tons for an interaction is 34,7 1,5 cm. (Mie scattering for angles below 50 was not taken into account) 258 cases of a nuclear interaction were obeerved. The mean number of fast particles n generated in a process Of inter- action amounts to 3,4 + O,Y. The angular disttibution of these particles shows a clearly preferred forward motion. The mean number of black and grey traces Nn - the recoil nuclei not being considered - is 8,3 + 0,5. h'om 249 found stars 18 can be considered to constitute an interaction of the initial protons with "Free" or "quasi- free" protons. 13 stare can be considered to represent an interaction betvwen protons and "quasifree" neutrons. All of them have an odd number of traces. and in the point of formation of the starp -traces can be observed. The mean number of fast particles in these 13' star traces is 3,1 . 0,3. TITLE: Secondary Stars Occurring in the Interaction of Protons With Energies of 8.7 Bav With Photographic Emulsion Nuclei PERIODICALt Zhurnal eksperimentallnoy i teoreticheskoy fizikiJ, 1959, Vol 37, Nr 3(9), pp 611 - 615 (USSR) ABSTRACTs In collisions between high energy nucleons and nucleons or nuclei the investigation of the energy distribution between the secondary nucleons and the pions is of special interest;Gr-4, gorov (Ref 1) found that at primary energies of between 3 and 40 Bev up to 70% of this energy is transferred, Belyakov et a! (Ref 2) and Bayatyan et al (Ref 3) investigated the inter- action between 9 Bev protons and photoemulsion nuclei, and deter mined the energy carried away by fast pions as amounting to 20-40% and those carried away by a fast nucleon as (40+20 It was the aim of the present paper to evaluate the energy of the fast nucleons and pions produced by the interaction of Card 1/3 8.7 Bev protons with photographic emulsion nuclei, An emul-sion Secondary Stars Occurring in the Interaction of Protons SOV -3 -4/i 2 With Energies of 8.7 B?v With Photographic Emulsion Nuclei pile (NIKFI-R) consisting of 100 layers was 12.radla- r-,-; the synchrocyclotron with 8.7 Bev protons. Such stars Ere described as seoondary, as show no track of a fast partclf~ with an angle between 178 and 1800 (with respect to the track of the primary protons) in the emulsion plane.. The following results were obtained by these investigations; 1) 0.68,0 0- fast neutrons (E "' 500 Mev) were found per star; their averaae n/ 0 energy was about (3-5.LO.5)Bev. 2) On the assumption tnat tht? numbers of fast protons and neutrons to a star' ana (referred their average energy are equal, (55.t9)% of the energy of primary particles is carried away by fast nucleons. 3) The averaj3- number of fast pions (E "1 80 Mev~, including the neutral pions, TE / amounts per interaction to 3.80.3. Their average total energy is (0.8+0.2)Bev. 4) An analysis of the angular distrfbati,~:)ns of the Tertiary charged particles in secondary stars ind.-cates that among the secondary particles flying away under an angle ,z~ 100 (to the direction of the primary protons) there are about 80116 nucleons. The angular distribution for neutrons and fast Card 2/3 particles is shown by figure 3. The authors thailk M- vq. Dany-b. The 8.5 Bev protons were obtained from the proton synchrotron of the OIYal. The proton beam was incident on the emulsion surface perpendicularly. The emulsion contained (2.90 t 0.06)-1o22 hydrogen atoms per cm3. An immersion objective of magnifying power 630 was used for evaluation. In the central part of the layer (2 ~ 2 cm2) Ix the flux density was (1.97tO-05).105 particles/CM2. 3.35 CM3 of the " emulsion were studied in all.
