Abstract: Following thQ 9,:,ction of the sci~tiL~ nerve in
the gastro-chamics musclj of tho denervated
(and h~~althy) uxtrtiraiti,~~s was studied during a
certain interval of time (1-19 days). In all
the three groups of animals in the first 24
hour periods an incrL;ase was first noted in the
glycogen lovel in the denurvated extremity as

Abstract: dompArad with the intact one, followed by a
subsequent drop. These changes occurred in
rats at an earlier period than in guinca pigs
and rabbits. In the last ones these occurred
at the latest period. In the opposite, in
starving animals, a nore pronounced droj~ in
glycogen level was observed in the intact mus-
cle3 as compared with the donervated ones. The
author considers the differences in the rate of
appearance of glycogen content changes as an
illustration of interspecie3 differences in the
rate of appearance of structural changes in mug-
cles following their denervation.

Liver and muscle glycogen were determined during the postnatal development of
rabbits and guinea-pigs. Muscle glycogenwas alsodelermined in animals of various
ages 3days aiterdpnervation (sectionof sciatic nerve)in guinea-pigs and I day after
denervation in both rabbits and guinea-pigs. Liver glycogen falls rapidly and deep-
ly after birth and then rises to adult levels on the 18th day in guinea-pig and after
the 22nd day in rabbits. One day after denervation there is a drop in glycogen con-
tent of the denervated muscle in rabbits younger than 10 days. A rise is observed
in animals older than 10 days. In guinea-pigs, 3 days after denervation there is
no change in animals younger than 26 days but a considerable drop in denervated-
muscle glycogen in older animals. Hahn - Prague
