Abstract: The doublet splitting of the terms of 4 atoms of the boron type is deter-
mined In the principal configurations both with the aid of the single-eiectron wave
functions of the Fok self-consistent fieldl as well as with the aid of the analytic
wave function. The theoretical result-s are compared with the experimental data.

Preparation and separation of chlorinated benzene derivatives of high boiling

manuf. were studied with the purpose of developing a method for the sepn. of
1,2,4-trichlorobenzene (1) for the prepn. of phthalocyanine. The material con-
tains -59% Cl. It was distd. in vacuo (19 MM. Hg) at 32-80* to obtain the light
portion) at the latter temp. p-dichlorobenzene pptd. At 81-1520 the high-boiling
portion wis obtained. Both portions were then redistd. at atm. pressure. The
light portion contained no I, the high-boiling portlon contained -60%. AB the
higb-boiling portion represents 26% of the total distillate, it was attempted to
:increase I yield by chlorinating the light portion. Fe catalyst was used and the
chlorination was conducted at 20-300 until up. gr. reached 1.220 (2010) and at
55-650 until it reached 1.335 (500). The I yield can be further increased by
continuing the chlorination until reaching the up. gr. 1.460 (500). G. J. Ernyei

From the viewpoint of operability 3 categories are distinguished. The following
technical observations are made: (1) In intrathoracic operations it is often import-
ant to adapt the patient's position to the direction and other characteristics of the
injury. (2) In major myocardial defects, implantation of a free muscular flap is
recommended. (3) In injuries close to a coronary vessel the use of a mattress
suture seems efficacious to prevent ischaemia. (4) For treatment of pulmonary
injuries ligation is unsuitable. only sutures should be applied. (5) In view of the
relatively important reduction of the respiratory function in mild injuries treated
conservatively or sernisurgically, the question arises whether it would not be more
efficacious to employ surgical evacuation.
