PER70DICAL: Zhurnal prikladnoy khimii, 1959, Vol 32, Nr 5, pp 1021-1029 (USSR) ABSTRAMM: ne study of diffusion processes is based on the analogy between the phenomena of diffusion and thermal conductivity. The difference of both processes is investigated here using the mass transfer in a binary solution. This mass transfer is typical for many processes of chemical technology, especially in a solid body-liquid system. The diffusion coefficient characterizes the spreading of conoentra- tion in space and may be called coefficient of concentration conduo- tivity. The diffusion coeffioient D covers Inertia as well as mass transfer properties of the system. It may be regarded as analogous to the coefficient of temperature-conductivity a, but not to the co- efficient of heat-conductivityk , The criteria of the diffusion similarity are not COMDletG analogies of the corresponding criteria of the thermal similarity. A diffusion coatiTnon isting of the borides TaB2, TaB, and Ta2B orm and up to 4,u thick was found to bi orme on the surface of the samples at 1200, 1300, and 1400C. After treatment at 1500, 1600, and 1700C, the powder patterns show strong lines of tantalum carbide TaC, and faint lines of TaB2 and Ta3B4, indicating that TaC is the main phase in the reflecting layer. Seriya fizicheskaya, v. 26 Ro. 2, 1962, 162-181 TEXT: The lutecium fraction was separated from a Ta target irradiated with 660-Mev protons for 2-1 hr. A new P-spectrometer with double focusing was used to study the spectrum in the 1020-3200 kev interval. Uwing to the finite source thickness, the line half-yridths were found to ran.qe between 0.22 and 0.29%. Lines of Lu 169 (34 hr), Lu'70 (2 days), Lu172 (6.7 days), and Lu174 were detected. The decay energies of the isotopes Yb 169 , Lu171, and Lu174, contained in the preparation, were smaller than 1 Mev. The energies of lines were d6termined with the aid of Card 1/0 S/048/62/026/002/001/0172 Spectrum of conversion ... B104/B102 the known lines of Lu172 (K909.9, K and L 1095) and Lu170 K1483.0, and K2039-0). The error of energy determinations lies bet7een 0.3 and 0.2%. The Lu172 spectrum (Table 1) was studied in the 1020-1970 kev interval, 22-25 days after separation. After this period, the activi- ty of Lu170 had practically vanished. Two days after separation, the spectrum of Lu 169 + Lu170 was measured in the 1040-3200 kev interval through a period of six or seven days. The broad maximum between the known lines K1452 and K1481 is ascribed to transitions pos8essing enerEie3 of 1465 and 1469 kev. The very broad maximum between the two known L lines o@. the 1452 and 1481 kev transitions is ascribed to K lines of weaK transitions with 1515.0 and 1517.4 kev. A new conversion line with an electron energy of 1550 kev is considered to be a K conversion line of 1611 kev transition. Other newly detected lines are: K1636, K166c, 169 K1680, K1692, and K1709. The 1095.0 and 913.8 keV transitions accompanying the decay of LuI72 are among the most intense transitions evinced in the decay of this nucleus and they take place be- tween tho 19 a 3+ level of the K a 3+ band and the 2+ and 4+ levels of the K a 0 rotational band. Al a I (no) allows of Ul and B2 tranattions; on the other hand, change of K by 3 units forbids both types of transitions, although not to the same Card 1/3 AP4010293 degree. Hence it is of interest to know the multipole order of these transitions. Accordingly, the first part of this work was devoted to determining the multipole order of the 1095.0 keV transition. To this end the K shell conversion coefficient was measured by comparison with the y-ray intensities and internal conversion elec- tron abundances for the available Lu172 source with the corresponding values for C060 and Sc46, in which there are known to occur pure E2 transitions with close energies (1322 koV and 1118 keV. respectively). The 7-rays were measured by means of the two-fold focusing VNIINJ3-spectrometer described by S.Shestopalova (Izv.AN SSSR,Ser.fiz.25,1302,1961; NucloInstr.and Aloth.17,94,1962). The values obtained for(XK for the 1095.0 keV transition were (2.8 � 0.4) x 10-3 from the comparative experiments with Co6O and (2.67 � 0.15) x 10-3 from the experiments with Sc46. Com- parison of the weighted mean of these values with the theoretical aK coefficients indicates that the transition may be pure E2, although the possibility of a mixture of E2 + MI with up to 12% MI is not precluded. This new information on the 1095.0 keV transition provides the basis for returning to the question of calculating the constant that determine the transition probabilities between the K M 3+ and K m 0+ rotational bands in y,0172. This question was considered earlier by two of the au- thors (B.Dzhelepov and V.Hikhaylov,Izv.AN SSSR,Ser.fiz.27,267,1963), but at that time the necessary experimental data were not available. Xn the present papor the Card 2/3 AP401020 , calculations are carried out In more detail and the constants entering into the ex- pressions for the transition probability are re-evaluated. On the basis of these, certain inferences are drawn regarding the probabilities and multipole orders of analogous transitions. In the concluding section the concept of "admixture quadru- pole moments" is introduced and the values of these parameters for Yb172 are evalu- ated. Doklady, v. 167, no. 5, 1966, 1083-1086 TOPIC TAGS: organic nitroso compound, free radical, EPR spectrum, electron donor ABSTRACT: In a continuation of the study of electron transfer processes in donor-acceptor transformations of nitroso compounds, the following systems consisting of trifluoronitro- somethaneland typical nucleophilic compounds were analyzed: (A) gF3NQ_+ amines -,"/ I ((C2H5)3N- C H N1 C H NH2' C H NHCH3; C6H5N(CH3)2); (B) CF3NO + C6H5SH; (C) CF3NO + (is0-C4Hq64;5(D) @Uo +'RM; R = ((CH3)2, (C2H5)2); (E) CF3NO + (CH3)2CCI'NO, and also (F) CF3NO + C2H50NO; (G) CF3NO + aldehydes (CH3CHO, C3H7CHO, C6H5CHO). In these systems, in the temperature range from -160 to +20C, EpR spectra were obtained, i indicating a Iradical nature of t4e transformations taking place. The signals are attributed to ion radicals f the type CF,3@-D (where D is the donor molecule) and CF3NO-, and also to 0 products of secondary reactions. The formation of these ion radicals in systems A-F indicates that oxidation-reduction processes occur during the initial stages of the reaction between the nitroso compound and the nucleophilic molecule, the latter acting as the electron donor.
