� Experiments were performed on hypothermic: dogs (thiopental anaesthesia, budy
tempcruture 25-2G�i, I. v, infection of a `l5% solution of peptone (l,'L ml, /'kg.) Pro-
duced in control animals and also in hypothermic dogs a shock state which was not
much influenced by simultaneous administration of chlorpromazine (4-5 mg, jkg. ),
Chlorpromazine sometimes even protracted the duration of shock. I. v. adminis-
tration of antazoline (5-10 mg, /kg,) did not completely abolish the manife,statians
of peptone shock; only the blood pressure and the frequency of respiration return-
ed more quickly to the normal state. It is suggested therefore, that the mechanisrr.
of this form of shock depends on a direct toxic action of the injected peptone and

Abstract Under pentothal narcosis 25 dogs were caused to undergo
