investigs tions of spomictic reproduction and the results by E. Aelders
(J. Heredity, 1958, 49, 41-44) seem to indicate that apomictic reproducticn is
a frequent phenomenon with this species. There are I Bulgarian, 6 Soviet, and

Abstract An investigation was made of the absorption of radio waves at wavelengthfi
of 2.4, 3.02, 4.83, and 5.94 meters in an ionized gas ( In a diecti&rge tube)
and of its dependence on the strength of the ionizing current. The levels
at which m1n1minn absorption ocrurs vere determined. It was shown that the
strength of the ionizing current, at which minirmi absorption occars, Is
proportional to the square of the pressure of the ionizing gas (at pressures
above 0.14 mm mercury). At lower pressures, new types of maxima and minima
of absorption were observedp not obeying the square law and independent of
the wavelength at constant pressure.

AB3TRACTs This paper describes the results obtained by an investigation
curried out by the authors (Romania) of the fluorescence of
motor fuels extracted from Romartian mineral oil. Four i3ubtita-ces

of which are given by a table. The spectra (Fig) of the first
three samples differ only little from one another. The X -
values of the maxima are giver). Nith sample C mattero are
somewhat different. The most important maxima are shifted
into the long wave range. Also the microphotographs of
solutions of the four samples in ethyl ether of various con-
centrations are given by a figure. For the purpose of deter-
mining the substa:@ces contained in the motor fuels,comparative

by these investigations show that the formatior of motor
oil spectra is mostly due to naphthalene, aithracene, ai,d
phenanthrene or to other similar lumir-,escerit compou,-.ds. In
the presence of many luminescent compounds the comparative
investigation method is not very well suited. Thrr,--for@@, the
luminescence apectra of a fraction of the motor fuel C were,
in addition, inve:)tigatod accorAing to 10 percefit of volvn,-.
The first four fractions diffor only little from o.,e anott,er
and correspond to the naphthalene-, phenanthre.-in- and ant.-ird-
cene spectra. In the case of others, intensities are -,hifted
to a considerable extert into the lo,:g-wave r-@Ige. Lidivid,al
maxima and their variation are mentioned individually. On
the basis of the fluorescence spectra of the fra,@tions, the
authors arrive at the conclusion that the motor fuelSnaphtha-
lene, pher,anthrene and anthracene investigated by them co!Aai:.

viral pneumopathy. On the fourth day of this second infection
the hemoculture for Sh. flexneri was positive; ten hours later
the patient died, after hyperF37exia and vomiting of blood. The
pathogenetic, diagnostic and prc6iostic implications of Shigella
baoteriemia are discussed.
