As a ~-ereral rule the blood pressure decrea5es slowly after a cereoral traumia, but
the mean pressu:e generally remains high. in most cases of hemiplegia the arterial
pressure is higher on the side of the lesion than on the normal side. This may be
due to the fact that the motor area also contains the cerebral vasomotor centres.
The venous pressure is generally increased. Capillaroscopy shows an atonic picture
shortly after the haemorrhage, especially on the pai-LLlysed silo. If 51 pntionts
examined (including 17 who came to autopsy), tho majority showeti hypertension.
The EC'J d.,--turbances were insignificant. Bradyeardia was ;,resent during the 'first
few days, fbllowed by tachycardia and in a few cases atrial fibrillation or (rarely)
extra systoles. in cni~ case of cerebral tumour the fitriLl MirilIntiun disa~pear(id

There were 22 patients with essential and 14 with Ly;frtenslon.
A.fter the stroke the pressure dropped initially. Asymifietric pres urr- va-'ues may
also be found in normal subjects. In 34 of the heriplegia patIents tlie blood pressure
was higher on the paralyseo side and in !,- on the nor7--tal side. 'it, 1.5 .5t,-Ited that
the pressure is often higher on the right in normal persons. !-'any (f the patients
with aspimietry had lesions of the Internal caisule and q,tir thalmiius. The differ-
