against wiring electric counters in parallel because of
the difficulty of achieving an equal distribution of the
load bntween the counters. The resistance of the current
circuit of the counter is so small that the length of the
wiring has a marked effect on the accuracy of the reading
The author does, however, give some hints on wiring to
achieve an equal load distribution when parallel switching

ABSTRACT: flegohmmeters are being produced in the USSR with a screened
terminal connected to one pole of the generator. When meas-
~ring the resistance of an insulation the leakage currents
on the surface of the insulation are fed via this terminal
to the operating current source, thus by-passing the meas-
uring instrument. Direct error is thus avoided, but the
surface currents Vien exert an effect on the generator vol-
tage which leads to inaccuracy in the reading of the logo-
meter. The error can be calculated in percentage of the

Kzwnodarskiy kray, who wanted to know the meaning if let-
ters inscribed in a triangle, and of Roman numerals
inscribed in a square, on the dials of Soviet eiect.-ric
measuring inbtruments. In accordance with GOST 1845-52,
all such instruments are subdivided, with respect to
'
the conditions of their 'exploitation, into four
groups.
An instrument earmarked to be used in temperatures
ranging from plus 10 to Plus 350C and in a relative
humidity of up to 80% is marked with "A". An instru-
ment to be used in temperatures from minus 20 to plus
500C, ~u a relative humidity of up to 80Yo is marked
with An instrument to be used in temperatures

such instruments have different degrees of proteettan
against the influences of external magnetic fields and
are subdivided into four categories, with respect to
that protection. An instrument having under the in-
fluence of a 5 oersted magnetic field an admissible al-
teration of its reading (from the upper limit) within
� 0.501o is marked with the Roman numeral "I". One
having an alteration of its reading � 1.0% is marked
with "III'. One having an alteration of its reading
� 2.5% is marked with "III". One having an alteration
of its reading � 5.0% is marked with "IV". The Roman
numerals appear on the dial inscribed in a square.

visibility In non-horizontal or inclined direction unsatis-
factory (i.e. visibility of various objects from an air-
plane) since they neither account for all optical

applicable calculation method. The authors assume the
aerosol structure of cloudless atmosphere, the spectral
transparency of atmospheric aerosol, and the indicators
(coefficients) of dispersip in the atmosphere as starting
points for the development of their theory of non-
horizontal visibility. Variable optical thicknesses of
atmospheric layers modify the amouht and intensity of
light reflected by ground objects and influence the
