stampability.of cold-rolled sheet steels 08k , "9~8fk a, produced by the

continuous casting method as compared with steel obtained from conventionally cast
ingots. Stampability was investigated at the presoforging shop of the Minsk Low-
_Q&splacement Motor Vehicle Planto Prior to the deep drawing of intricately shaped
automotive body parts the specimens were subjected t.o mechanical testa and metallo-
graphic examinations which showed that sheet steel Froduced by continuous casting
meets the requirements of the standards for quality structural sheet steel and that
its ferrite grains are of a sufficiently small size to favorably affect the quality
of the surface of elements during their deep drawing. Stampability under production

conditions was determined during the 4rawidg of a number of components of the Hoskvichl
car: an analysis of the stress-strain diagram during drawing established that the
plasticity margin of the metal is comparatively high during the embossing of most
of the components investigated. An exception is the stress-strain diagram during the
die-stamping of lower crankcases. The deep drawing of the crankcase involves limiting
values of the plasticity margin in a number of sectors of the component and in some
cases the embossing culminates in total exhaustion of the metal's plasticity. Compared,
with steel deriving from conventionally cast ingots, the proportion of defective components
fabricated from steel produced by continuous casting was appreciably lower. These
findings point to a satisfactory stampability of steel produced by continuous casting
and the possibility of using this steel for the deep drawing of elements fabricated
from metal meeting the (lower) requirements of the ALI-Union State Standard GOST

AaSTRACT: A method is described for dotormining gold and rhonium in ores by
measuring the gamna-spectra of the irradiated samplev. It elininates a prolimi-
nary radiochemical separation of the isotopes. Srmplos of gold ores (containing
from 0.5-40.0 9 of gold per ton) and of molybdenito ores and concentrates ( th
a rhenium content of 0.001% and up) were exposed to irradiation of 1.8 x 0
neutrons/cm2sec for periods from 30 min to 9 hrs. 71h9 spectra of gama-radiation
were obtained with a monooryatal-acintillometria spioc-.rometar. It was possible
to determine accurately the gold content at the 0.412 Mov spectral line,

provided that the summary radio activity backg-round of Na, As, and Fe isotopoa
was not excessive. The usually high As content of the ores was reduced to 0.814,
by heat treating the ore in a carbon arc before itt exposure to irradiation.
Additional reduction of the AB76 content was achieved by allowing the samples to
stand for 9-16 days prior to their op tral analysis. This waitin oriod is
effective because the hal-f life of AN is 27 hours and that of Auq9R is 2.69
days. The determination of the Re 186 isotope was possible at the 0.137 Mev
spectral line in the presence of the Mo99 isotope, provided that the Intensity of
*he photopeak of Mow did not excead that of R0196
)y more than twice. Allowing
the irradiated samples to s'-and for 15 hours reducod the Mo interference by doing
away with Mo99 isotope (half life of 67 hours). Or--g. art. has: 3 charts.

of an ultrasonic device for stabilizing the din(~nsions of bushings'~Iof K-21"Kaproniby
treatment in an ultrasonic field in a machino-oll medium. a-no tFerma-I-T-reatment of
the bushings was carried out at vibration frequencies of 23.5 Kc, a termerature of
130 t 50C, and exposures of 5, 15, and ?5 riin. The oxneriments showed that thermal
treatment in an ultrasonic field sharDly reduces the duration of the heating, which
amounts to 5-25 min instead of the 2-4 hr required in the absence of ultrasound. An
increase in the stability of the dimensions of the bushings as compared to ordinary
methods of treatment, and also an improvement in the plasticity and strength of the
parts were observed. However, the studies showed an Inadequate stability in man7
cases. I
