ABSTRACT: Shear spinning has been successfully used by some Czech plants for several
years. It appears to be limited to sheet. metal parts of a conical or a combined
cylindrical-conical shape with a diameter not exceeding 700 mm. Carbon and oxidation
resistant steel sheets with respective thicknesses of 2.5 and 4 .5 mm, copper sheets
1.5 mm thick, and copper plates 9 mm thick have been spun at room temperature with
thickness reductions of 60-80%. No research on spinning is done by any of the
Czech research institutions, and no specialized qui t is manufactured in Czech-
oslovakia. All the work has been done either with lathes, which were modified for
spinning, or perhaps with equipment Imported from East Germany, where three types of
spinning equipment are produced for parts vith a maximum diameter of 100, 250, and

ABSTRACT: Polyesters based on terephthalic acid are pro,iuc,-d not
only by polycondensation, but also by transester-ificaLion
from dimethylterephthalata and pol -,,: lycole. Tte
efficiency of the reaction can be measured by estima~;ii,F
the amount of methanol liberated in the process. A
volumetric determination oi' methanol chives unreliaicle
results and fails com~-letely in presence of solv,~nts,
such as cresols. The authors have developed a photometric
method for the estimation of methanol, based on its
oxidation to formaldehyde by means of potassium
perman6anate and coiiversion into a coiourt--d complex
with Schiffs rea,--ent. 2his w:is rhen 'ItAormined
photometrically. The photometric dete.-mination wLis
carried out with a green filter, transtnittin~:~, li~_zi-lt of

the photometric determinaticii of methanol L!-)ave correct
and reproducible resultE! if the followinv, conditions
viere observed:
1) A new calibration curve to be used for each series
of tests. 2) Methanol has to be isolated from the
reaction mixture by means of steam disLillation.
3) The amount of methanol used for dis,!~illauion should
be in the order of 100 to 200 t') 50 cc~-; of t1lie
distillate to be collected. 4) If crec,--1L; tire present,
the steam distillation of methanol has i,,) 10,~, carried out
with an excess of potassium hydroxide. It w;,s found

lism. Imipramine. norimipramine, propazepin. amitriptyline, and
