from the skarns ie very poor in cadm:Lum a?~d very rich in indium, whereas
sphalerite from the quartz-sulfide d~aposits ha~~ the highest cadmium con-
tent end the lowest indium content. Yttrium of the Maykhur deposit is
enriched in garnet and dcheelite, it is, howevlar, contained in only 22 ~~
of the analyzed garnets and 43 ~ of i;he echeelites . The yttrium ca ntent
of garnet amounts to 0.7 - 0.9 ~-, th~a yttrium content of scheelite to
0.014 ~6. In the garnets yttrium is z~ccompani.ed by germanium, beryllium,
gallium, seldom also by scandium. I't is characteristic that white scheel-
ite from the Skarns does not contain yttrium. The honey-colored schee?ite
from the quartz-sulfide deposits has the highest yttrium content. Gallium
is widely distributed in the 1laykhur deposit and occurs in the minzrals of
the skarns as well as in the quartz-~3ulfide depposite (95 ~~ cif all studied
garnets contained gallium). None of these rocks contains, however, more
than some thauasndths percent of gallium. Niobium is enriched only in
cassiterite ehich containsv.080 - 0.125 ~ (0.1 ~ on the average) Nb205.
In eaesiterite, niobium is not accompanied by tantalum. Beryllium ~s ~~�
widely distributed in the deposit, h~~wever, in very small quantities .
Scheelite and garnet have the highest beryllium content (Table 7). In no
mineral of the deposit scandium is enriched to a considerable extent. It

elemental bismuth, molybdenite, stan~nite. Cad~aium, indium, and niobium
were chemioelly determined, yttrium ley X-ray a;aalysie in the chemical lab-
oratory of the VNII-1 (All-Union Scientific Re~eearch Institute of Gold and
Bare petals). Cadmium, indium, and ;partly yttrium and niobium are the
most interesting elements. Also hero sphalerite is the main mineral Which
fe enriched pith cadmium. Its cadmium content varies from 0.59 to 1.85 ~,
1.37 ~ on the average (Table 2). This cadmium content of sphalerite ie
one of the highest of all sphalerite deposits of the Soviet Union and the
highest of all ephalerites described in the literature (Table 3)S though
the I[aykhur sphalerite contains more than 7 ~ iron and therefore belongs
to the marmatitee. The data given for comparison in Table 3 are taken
from a paper by S . T . Badalav and ~. R . Yenikeyev (Ref . 1 : S . T . $adal ov,
M. R. Yenikeyev, Geokhimiya, ne. 4, 1959)� Like cadmium indium is enriched
only in sphalerite. No indium could be found in casaiterite and chalca-
pyrite which occur together with sphalerite. The indium content of
sphalerite varies from 0.006 to 0.062 gib, its average i9 4.021 ~-'~, Sph~~lf:~rite

TEXTS The authors studied the occuaence of the rare and trace elemerf.te
oadmium, indium, rare earths (yttrium), germanium, gallium, berylliuml,
niobium, and eeandium in the Maykhur skarn deposit Nhich lies at the
southern slope of the Gissarskiy range in the region of the divide, a.t the
upper oouree of the Maykhur river (a right tributary of the Yarzob ri.vf~r).
Metamorphized sediment layers from the Middle Paleoxaic which contain i.n-
terstratified layers of marble, crystalline sahista, and hornetonee clf
different eompoF~ition, are directly bedded upon the deposit. The erupted
rode consist of granod=orites, toura~alinized g;ranitea, granodiorite-
agli.tes and partly also of pegmatites. The deposit has the follcwin~; '
mineral composition. Main components: garnet, pyroxene, quartz, cal.cate;
