TMUt-, The normal compensation method on fixed and-rotating cathodes was
'ased-,'tor @*"dy the polarization and the nature of its variabion in oyanogea
ffilver-!,@p@a@ink. electrolytes depending oa the concentration of the basia aompo-
nentis of the solution, the temperature and the introduction of the luster
prdmoting subatancest thiourea and sodium thioaulfate. -- On-the cathode polariza-
tion aurves-two limit currents were observed, the first of which'arises at
laver Do&thc)de values and can be entirely suppressed by a large surplus of free
ayanite. in the. electrolyte. The appearance and level of the first limit current
is, g6verned mainly by the chemical processes taking place in the cathode 16yei*,
'afid-;,of..-tho,'daaoncL,~'limit current - by the rate of diffusion of the complex anions.

On the mechanism of the cathode A154/AIGI
Additions of thiourea and sodium thioaulfate as luster promoting substances have
a bipolarizingeffeat right up to the transition of the potential to @he H
liberation branch, considerably increase the level of the first limit current
and hav#_-.pr@aatically no ef feat on the level of the second limit current.
rostrousAg deposits are formed only within the limits of the first limit
c@rrent,displaaement. On the basis of the relationships established betwein'
the regions Of -the first limit durrent displacement and the. formation, of "lustrous
d4osits,' it waa prop6sed that the luster promoting substanaes'play a dual role,
consisting tn the formation of a finely-dispersed sol in the cathode layer and
iri the screening of the more active centers an the cathode, as well as in shift-
the.equilibrium of the reaction Ag(CN)2 + CN_ 4"Ag(CZI)32- to the left.
