Abstract tnglish Su=ary Modified]- General review of factors to be kept in
mind when evaluating adequacy of mental hospital facilities. Except for the
Sofia University Psychiatric Clinic, all of the Bu4@;Zarfan mental hospitals
are now housed in buildings originally constructed.for some other purpose:
prisons (Lam, Kurdzhali,) monasteries (Tsarev Brod., Karkukovo, Kuriloj)
workerst camps (Batak, Narechen* Kasharitsa and others,) military barracks
(Byala, Varna,) small private hospital (Psychiatric Minic of authors'
institute,) or private home (Knyazhevo.) Table shows 1961 number of beds
(20 to 525) and patient cost in levs (611 to 14G7) for 12 Bulgarian mental
hospitals. Diagrams and plans are shown and discussed of the proposee

Abstract: It is brought otit that the frequency* and gravit7 of
Fe-cupatlonal diseases of the periphez%l and central nervous eye-'
ten and of psychonTarosea with an occupational background in-
creased in Bulgaria during 1953-1962. This is explained by the
accelerated rate of economic development. Statistics of relative
severity and of the average number of days lost according to oc-
cupations are presented, Conditions arising as a result of ex-
posure to noise and vibrations are discussed, With respect to
neurointoxications,,the increase of their incidence among ag3A:-
cultural workers, particularly in connection with the use of
organaphosphorus compounds, :La pointed out. The danger presented
by' radiation sickness to radiologists,, engineers using X-rays in
work on metals, persons occupied at the nuclear center, eta., is

Abstract A suspensica of Brown-Feerce carcinom was introduced into
rabbits @ testes caid, intraderml, vaccination with the tumQr
tissue (fresh or fvozen and preserved at -120) in 2-3 Places
(0-5 01. suspension of I:T) started the next day. T-award the
5th-6th day the tumors appeared in the T, spread to the
spermatic card and, metastasized. .0a the 3rd-4th clay tumors
developed in the places of intradermal. vaccination and us-
ually wderwent resorption. In these rabbito Viere was aa
inhibition of the tumor Growth in the T. Toward the 3rd
month the tumors vere stabilized and. stopped growin,-, in s-M
of the rabbits. At this time the rabbits were revaccinated.

Seventy patients were operated during a period of 3,5 yr. Eight patients died. In
49 very good or good results were obtained. Beat improvement was observed In
patients operated in the early stage of mitral disease. During the last 2 yr., the
percentage of good results Increased and the mortality was reduced. In 10 patient&
instrumental commissurotomy had to be performed. The most convenient inatru
ment, although not a perfect one; Is the expanding dilator (Duboat). A method of re-
moving thrombi from the auricle is described. In moat cases with small fragile
auricles containing thrombi. Bailey's route throughthe pulmonary vein cannot be
used. In these cases the incision of the auricle has to be widened on the atrial wial
towards the pulmonary veins and its margins protected with sutureg. (XVIU, 9)

Abstract: [Author's Hungarian summary modified] Among the patients with
accidental injuries admitted to the hospital :@ection for supplementary treat-
ment, in addition to the scars of the accident, 1,8.1 per cent were round to
have lumbal disc hernia which was not mentioned in their medical documents.
In the author's opinion, the disc hernia is sustained at the moment of the
accident as a result of traumatic shaking. forcing of the body, especially
of the vertebral column. The disc hernia remains hidden after the accident.
