The additional incisions were rmade into i"10 masticatory muscles, heart, accessor, U y muscles of the tongue, diaphragm, after removal or the serosa and throat muscles. The improved methods resulted in a three-.1"old increase in positive findings. For this reason, the changing of curreat Meat inspection regulations to include the testin-x of t-he muscles descrUbed is recommended. Of the 13 animals 10 died while exhibitirg uremia synptoms, but 3 animals survived the 14-day survival period chosen by authors. Evaluation of the histo- logical and laboratory findings of both dead and surviving animals showed that the symptoms of this syndrome agree to a great extent with the syndrome of acute h=an renal insufficiency. 31 References, predominantly ItZestern. These do not 6ccur after removal of the frontal cortex, on the other hand, - marked grasping appears if a paraffin disc is placed over the motor cortex. This is at variance with the experimental results obtained in monkeys and apes, but in agreement with neurosurgical experience In humans. In cats the grasping reflex is invariably accompanied by, other motor phenomena, Le. the jumping reflex and the 'Aufziehreaktion'. This whole complex also appears after lesions of the subcortical inhibitory systems (anterior nuclear group of the thalamus, anterior and middle portions of the hypothalamus' :'amygdaloid nucleus, mesencephalic paths conveying inhibitory impulses) and thus seems to constitute an. integral group of release symptoms. A grasping reflex produced by a thalamic Lesion defkaitely increases in intensity after removal of the motor cortex. There- fore a complex control; by both cortical and subcortical Inhibitory systems Is assumed for the grasping phenomena. It appeared that both the muscles of the extremities and of the neck were reciprocally influenced by the labyrinths. This Influence could be modified by numerous factors. Unilateral. labyrinthectomy abolished the reciprocal reactions, but cerebellectomy did not change labyrinthine effects. Decerebrate rigidity was more readily altered by rotational, than by painful stimuli. Boeles - Amsterdam (Vill, 2, 111 pool--' L 37602-66, ACC NRI. Abstract: [Authors' Hungarian summary] The use of UV irradiation in the treatmen of superficial and deep processes of the comea caused by the herpes virus -is described on the basia of 21 cases. The treatment led to healing within'an average of 13.9 days in the case of superficial processes and within 24.5 days in the case of more deep seated ones. 9 Eastern .European, 6 Western references. The phoszhatase activity in renal tubules decreased nri-or to the dovelopment of oliguria and azotemia and dis- appeared when renal failure was complete. Pentobarbital anesthesia mitigated or . evan prevented the post-i'schemic condition. In most anesthetized animals the alkaline phosphatase activity returned to normal after a decrease following ligation. Regeneration of tubular calls after the ligation took about four weeks if the contralateral kidney was intact. Changes in alkaline phosphatass activity paralleled 'hose in tubular activity: decrease in the former indicated increasing renal failure, and its return to normal indicated tubular regeneration 42 References, of which 9 by Hungarian authors (5 in Hun,,,Tarian journa2s), rest Western.
