Abstract : To 100 ml of sample beina analyaed are added 6-7 drops
of mixed indicator (500 ma diphenYl carbazide and 50 mg
bromophenol blue are disscIved in 100 ml 95% C2H50H and
allowed to stand for 24 hours). 0.05 N H170 3 is ddded
dropwise until a yellow coloration develops (pH about
3.4) and 0.01 N Hg (170 ) is slowly added until the
the color turns pink",2oiet. Calculation of Cl- concen-
tration is effected by means of a calibration curvo.

TITLE: Effects of the extraction medium on the recovery of
uranyl sulfate by means of tri-n-octylamine
PERIODICAL: Chemick~ prulnysl, no.6, 1962, 297-300
TEXT: The following principal parameters controlling the
extraction of uranyl sulfate from a sulfate medium by means of
tri-n-octylamine (TOA) were determined. 1) Effect o" TOA-
concentration with respect to organic solvent medium on extraction
performance. Solvents investigated were benzene, chloroform and
carbon tetrachloride. Concentration of H2SO4 in aqueous phase was
kept constant. Result: extraction isotherms were S-shaped.
2) Effects of initial H2SO4-concentration on the extraction
coefficient: coefficient increases with increased H2504, to reach
maximum, at 0.05 1-1. Higher concentrations reduce the extraction.
It is postulated that the uranyl sulfate-TOA-complex is displaced
from the organic phase by increased H2S04-concentrations.
3) Effect of sulfate ions: the extraction coefficient decreases
with increased sulfate ion concentration. 4) Effect of solvent:

a correlation between the dielectric constant of the solvent and
the extraction coefficient was established. Solvents with high
dielectric constant reduced the extraction coefficient. However,
the chemical nature of the solvent proved also of decisive
importance. Chloroform, for instance, produces adducts with TOA,
probably by hydrogen bonding with the mobile H of CHC?3 and
extraction of uranyl sulfate is consequently far below 100%.
It is suggested to employ solvents which are completely inert to
amines, but have a low dielectric constant, such as benzene or
carbon tetrachloride.

ABSTRACT: The article reports on the experimental investigation of the complicated I
relations observed in the extraction of sulfuric acid and an attempt is made to
interpret the results by using the conclusions drawn from a previous study of the
extraction of hydrochloric acid. The data obtained from the study of the extractionj
of hydrochloric acid gives the key to the understanding of these relations which are;
of the greatest importance from the point of view of technology. The results of the
chpAdcal analysis of the organic phase and of the cryoscaptc determination of its
degree of polymerization show that sulfuric acia Is extracted by N-octyl aniline in
the form of N-octylaniline hydrogen sulphate from which are formed, in the organic
phase, cyclic members (similar to N-octyl aniline) which are linked into polymeric

ABSTRACTs ThoEjpovice iron or* deposit is located between Rokyeany and
Pleon. The deposit is of the sedimentary type and consists of
2 ore levels. The ore bodies have oLny shear zones due to
tectonic phenomena and their dip angle is approximately 150.
The ore of the lower level, whose thickness varies from 0 to
20 a, contains over 30 % of iron- That of the principal upper
level, whose thickness is from 15 to ?5 2, contains 25 to 27
of iron.
The roof of the principal ore body is represented by sandstone,
quartzite and micaosous slate which are very crumbling. The
covering rooks are represented by Tertiary sediments.
Tho whole deposit area is divided by a railroad line into 2

the strip mining. The southern part, occupying 0.7 eq km,will
be mined by the underground method. The planned annual out-
put of the both parts will total 1,100,000 tons of ore.
The overburden is removed in a 10 m high bench, while ore is
mined in 5 m high benches due to considerable tectonic dis-
turbances.
Percussion drilling of bore holes, 150 to 200 mm in diameter,
is performed with Soviet '!,bY -20.2" drilling machines.
Rock and ore are loaded with single-bucket excavators of the
"Mb-2" and "E-25" types into dump trucks "T-111" (8-ton capa-
city) and "KA3-525" (25-ton capacity).

produced an insignificant catalytic effect on
the oxidation processes in butter, at which
