"Relation of the Blood Indicators to the Characteristic Build of Horses"
Tr. Sev. -Oset. S. -Kh. In-ta.L No 16, 1953, 219-224
Author investigated the blood indicators of horses of heavy and
light build. In all indicators, such as the number of erythrocytes, this
number was significantly greater in the heavy-set horses. Author concludes
that the oxidizing processes are more energetic. (RShBiol, No 9, May 1955)

Abstract: In 2 months old pure-bred riding horses, the 1[b
count was 9.5 percent, the erythrocyte (E) count
5.7 percent higher for mares (M) than for colts (C).
Similarly, the ffb count for 6 months old M was
12.4 percent, the E count 5.3 percent higber than
for 6 months old C. Frnra the ages of ii to 2j years,
the cluuiges of the 1[b content are the same in colts
and in mares. The anount of E is larger in 11 years

in mares. Up to 6 months of age the leukocyte
count per 1 m-3 is higher in C than in M, while
fron the age of ij years on to adulthood it is
higher in M than in C. Within the age group from
birth to li years, the cellular coefficient is
higher for M, while in older animls it is higher
for C. The hemogram of colts shows a ne-atraphilic

lyi3phocytic characteristics.

ABSTRACT: Gliomacrop-hages grown in vitro contain in their cyto-
.plasm various amounts of neutral fatee In between the droplets
of fat the cytoplasm is strongly PAS-positive* Among the or,-
zymes acid phosphatase, non-specific esterase, and sucoinate do-
,hydrogenase were found. Alkaline phosphatase was not found. The
macrophages originated in the brain and spleen of ohicken embryo
and no difference in'their behavior due to the different origin
of-the material was found* Increasing length of cultivation in-
creased the amount of fat and the activity of the enzymes. 'Orig. art. has:

ABSTRACT: The object of the present work was an experimental study
of the noise produced in a channel which has recesses in
its walls. This case appears to be intermediate between a
free flow in an infinite atmosphere and a channel with
rigid walls. The experimental set up is shown in Fig.l.
The air flow was produced by an apparatus described prev-
iously in (Ref.2). The size of the recesses could be varied
and the mean speed of the current was 10-35 m/sec. In Fig.2
the dependence of noise on the speed of the current in the
channel having a height of 100 am and recesses 300 mm deep
x 100 mm wide is given. When the recesses are excluded
(channel with smooth walls) the variation of the level of
sonic pressure is proportional to the 6th power of the speed
of flow. This picture, however, is radically changed in

TITLE: The magnitude of the reduction of jet noise level In a cylindrical muffler
SOURCE: Akusticheskiy zhurnal, v. 12, no. 1, 1966, 72-77
TOPIC TAGS: gas jet, jet flow, acoustic noise
ABSTRACT: Tlie problem of the optimal factor of jet noise reduction in a muffler was
first investigated elsewhere (J. Dyer, P. Franken, P. Westervelt. Jet noise reduction
by induced flow. J. Acoust. Soc. America, 1958, 30, 8, 761-764, A. Powell. Consirl,-a-
tion concerning an upper limit to jet noise reduction. J. Acoust. Soc. America, 19.59
31, 8, 1138-1140). The authors of the earlier work determined the optimal quantity of
jet noise reduction for the case of the application of corrugated and multi-tube nozzles,
however, they obtained no standard working formulas. The present authors attempt to
determine this quantity theoretically, as well as to determine jet noise reduction by de--
creasing the velocity gradient. Investigations were performed to determine the optimal

magnitudes for the reduction of jet noise in a muffler. The optimal condition consists in
the following: the noise generated during the flow of gases out of the outflow section of
the muffler should not exceed the noise level of the primary jet, attenuated as a result of
damping in the muffler. The author also studies the question of the reduction of jet noise
in the muffler ejector. In both cases standard working formulas are obtained for the
determination of the magnitudes of jet noise reduction. A comparison of theoretical data
with the experimental shows satisfactory agreement. Orig. art. has: 8 formulas and

TITIZ: A Transistorized Amplifier (Usilitell na poluproyodnikovykh triodakh)
PERIODICAL: Radio, 1957, Nr 5, pp 53-55 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: A do-it-yourself type transistorized amplifier for an electromagnetic or a
piezoelectric phonograph pickup Is described. In case of an electromagnetic
pickup the preamp stage uses one type PIA transistor and a matching transformer.
In case of a piezoelectric pickup two type P13 transistors are used. In both
cases the final puK,.-pull stage Is designed with type P37 transistors and
operates In the AB class. The amplifier output is about 1* w with 0.35 mv input
at 1000 cps; distortion 3% and goes up to 6% at 100 cps. Frequency response
characteristic rises by 7-10 db at 100-200 cps as compared to the 1,000-cps
point. Due to high prices on transistors in the WSSR it is recommended to
use the circuit with one type PIA transistor for the time being.
Two circuit diagrams, parts data, instructions for winding transformers, also
for mounting, assembling and alignment, and test findings are supplied.
There axe 5 figures and 2 tables (with transformer data).

The/~honograph "Yubileynyy" (RG-3), measuring
160x260X375 mm, consists of the following basic
parts: the three stage amplifier of the type NCh;
an electric motor of the type EDG-1 (2,800 rpm) with
a driving gear for rotating the turntable; a piezo-
ceramic pickup with universal head and automatic stop;
and a loudspeaker of the type 1-GD-9 installed inside
the lid of the case; the case lid with the loudspeaker
can be removed. A frequency-selective feedback in-
side the amplifier covering all 3 stages, is used for
the elimination of sound distortions. The total weight
of the phonograph - 5.7 kg. There are 2 drawings and

ABSTRACT: An examination is made of the major conditions for automa-
tion of processes in the aluminum industry, namely, continuity
of the process, operational reliability and controllability of
the equipment, and good dynamic process characteristics. Ex-
amples are presented of the models and dimensions of plant
and equipment specified in plans and yet unsuited to the require-
ments of automation. The problem of the need to develop con-
trol attachments for unstable and readily crystallizing solutions
and pulps of alumina production is examined, also the need for
expanding investigations of the objects and methods of autorna-
