TITLE: Technology and QuaLUty of Magnesite-Chromite Arch Bricks (Sostoyaniye tekhnologii i kachestvo magnezitokhromitovogo sv,odovogo kirpicha) PERIODICALs Ogneupory, 1958, Nr 10, pp. 154-461 (USSR) AMTRACT: Pt the hnpinnin!- of 195", 1'1~inoirncnnor" n qi1rvr-, of the ZaporosbOye, Chasov Yar, Panteloymonovka, "WAtgnezit" plants -, n4' 11- :*u,-,i -~,. lch:!.,;',i'1', I-oibi:int (Kuznetsk Ketallurgical PIAP-G). In all of th3so plnn'L.3 magnesito- zhroinit- brie-,, , --~ produced following approximately the same process. The hunical composition of the raw material is given in table I an~ the composition of the layers in table 2. The grain aize3 of the initial materials in the respective plants are shown in tables 3 and 3a and the specific gravity of the bricks in table 4. Table 5 contains information on the burning of magnesite-chromite bricks in tunnel kilns ani table 6 in gas-chamber kilns. The characteristic properties of these Card V2 bricks for the year 1957 may be seen in table 8. The magnesite-chromite vaults were constricted accord- ing to a design by Frenkell (JNIIO). The highest degree of' stability with the use of oxygen was obtained in the furnaces of the "Zaporozhatal" Plant and of the Nizhne-Tagillskiy Metal- lurgic Kombinat (Table 2). Table 3 shows the performance of open-hearth furnaces of equal capacity with magneDite-chromite vaultu. In another table data concerning equal furnacen of' the NTKK are listed. In recent years unburned magresite-chromite bricks were used for open-hearth furnaces of low capacity Card 1/3 (Table 4). A description of port bricks is given in table 5. SOV/131-58-11-5/9 The Performance of' R~.fractnr KaterIaLls in Open-flearth Furnaces Table 6 shows the stability of the upper rows of' the ports of air regenerators. The performancesof porte and open-hearth furnaces in the MMK are described in table 7. Another table gives the consumption of refract,)ry material per ton oi' steel. Conclusionst for furnaces operating intensively, as well as those in which metal alloys are melted, the vaults should be built of bricks containing periclase-spinellide or of high density moignesite-chromite bricks burnt at high temperaturc, respectively, according to the method of the UHIIO; magnesite- chromite brickwork is suitable for the lining surface of the slag-pocket vaults and the dinas walls ot the slag pockets; for the brickwork of the upper furnace ports, where there are oxygen ana very high temperatures, forsterite br~ck3 are rec- ommended; in other furnaces it is advisable to use highiy aluminiferous and dinas-chromite bricks; the quality of' the magneeite-chromite vault bricks must be improved; the deneity of the forsterite port bricks must be increased.
