A study was made of the incidence and patt.ogenesis of bronchiectanis in primary
tb. One hundred cases were examined by bronchography and bronchoscopy and 16
specimens of exeresis were studied from the morbid anatomical point of view. In
all cases, dilatations in the complicated primary complex (primary cavity. tuber-
rulous opaque lung, form of dissemination by gangliobronchial fistula) were de-
te'eted.. From the point of view of morphology, established bronchlectases and
bronchial atonic dilatations (digtensions) were observed. They were mostly loca-
lized in regions with specific lesions. The changes were frequent in disseminations
and constantly present in the opaque lung. It is believed thet incipient bronchiecta-
sis has a nervous pathogenesis (due to participation of nervous formations of the
hfilua), However, the inflammatory process is believed to be the decisive factor in
the development of the bronchiectaots.

TEXT: The production of adpla-methylstyrene by catalytic dehydrogenation
of lsopronyl-benzene is mainly performed in the USSR at the ShMS Synthetic Rubber
Qombine. -The same method will be used In the Comblnatul ChImle (Chem1_cZ_Uo=mn61

ing isopropylbenzene to alpha-methylstyrene and using the following catalysts-

Balandin and G.M. Maruk in (Ref. -~), and by Nickels and his assistants (Ref. 7).

Study of the Selectivity of Catalysis Used in DehydrQgenation Reaction of Isopro-
pylbanzene to Alpha-Methylstyrene
The industrial catalyst 1707 and 16e Cr2o -A1203 catalyst proved to be the most.
advantageous. The authors briefly refer ~o the physico-chemical properties of the
alpha-meth,ylsty-rene monomer. At the catalytic- dehydrogenation of Isopropylbenzene
there are, besides the primary reaction of the formation of alpha-methyl5ty-rene,
also a series of secondary reactions producing benzene, toluene, styrene-ethyl-
benzene, gaseous hydroca--bons, etc. (Fig. I)- The dehydrogenation reaction of
isopropylbenzene is powerfully endothermic, The quality of catalysts with regard
to the development of a chemiial process can be as well apprenalated by taking Jn-
to consideration the activity.. selectivity, selectivity index and the apparent
power of activation. The activity increases with the temperature and vice-versa.
Me selectivity varies In function of the volumary speed. The temperature reduces
the selectivity, but increases the activity, On the basis of Table 8, the authors
examined five catalysts. Generally, the active component Cr203 presents for a chain
dehydrogenatlon a reduced selectivity, because 27 - 48% of the raw material are
tra-n.sformed into secondary products. As compared with the industrial catalyst
iY07 (with Fe2o as active component.), a catalyst on the basis of zinc oxide (Zn
iii) ved to ~e superior. Zn 11T produces approx-imat.ely 1-11% alpha-methylstyrene

is 18,779 kcal/mol, whereas the cracking reaction has an apparent activation power
of 56,585 kcal/mol. The appreciation of the practical qualities of catalfst-s can
be extended also to other hetherogene catalystic rea,:tions But, this appre,,~ia-
tion, does hot always justify the economy of a he"herogene-ral.alytJc prooess som'~
t1mes It is interesting to use cat~a_lysls wNch produce at a single passing a smal-
ler efficiency of the primary product, but finally lead to a hAgh efficiency by
