The following are the unit's characteristics: 1) depth-measure- ment range, 0-2023 m; 2) depth transducer measurement error 0.8%; 3) temperature- measurement range, -0.594 to +28.97C; 4) temperature-transducer time constant, 3 SeC4 5) container weight, 1-100 kg; 6) length of cable on winch drum, 3.5 km; 7) measure-, ment time for one parameter, 3 sec; 8) scale resolution, temperature, 0.0289C; 9) scale resolution, depth, 1.99 m. Measurement results are put into a ten-bit :ard 1/3 L 06540-67 ACC NR, AT6026959 -Fig. 1. These results are then converted-into an octal code and recorded on control and punched tapes using an STA-2M program punch for a Minsk-I computer, and on graph paper by an EPP-09 3-pointrecording potentiometer. Blockdiagmms of the measuring system and shipboard re- cording unit are presented, and detailed descriptions of their operation are given. The container measuring system is said to occupy a space 150-mm in diameter and 210 mm in height. Calibrat-ion of the instrument package is performed in calm weather using two types of reversing thermometers at appropriate depths. One stated short- coming of the package is the disparity in precision betwen-n the telemetering system and the potentiometric depth transducer.' This disadvantage is to be overcome by using a tensometric pressure transducer. Orig. art. has: 3 figures. I table, and 3 graphs. A. Zvorykin and D. N. Kirzhner , Priborostroyeniye, Nr 11, 1957 and describes a method by means of which he believes it possible to calculate the economic efficacy of automatization. This efficacy can be represented by the following formula: effect expenditure Here E denotes economic efficacy, effect - the production of a certain state or affect, its quality and quantity, and expenditure - the total amount spent for the work necessary to bring about the said effect. The following terms are dealt with in greater detail: 1~ Productivity of work 2 Prime production costa Card 1/2 3 Capital expenditure during the period of production and How to Determine the Economic EffiAencyof Automation FOVI 19 -58 -8-7/16 amortization of capital investments. 4) Total expenditure for work. Hydraulic stabilizer FERIODICALs Referativnyy zhurnal, Mashinastroyeniye, no, 20, 1961, 11, abstract 20L47 ("Sudontroyenlys", 1196i2"no -6 17-18) The principle of action of the hydraulic stabilizer is based on the properties of waves to collapse in the zone of ocunterflow. The stabilizer is,ar. assembly whioh produces on the water surface an artificial flow directed from the ship's board outward. The design of the stabilizer is comparatively simple. On the water-mark level or somewhat higher the ship's hull is surrounded by the working pipe (collector) with holes on which horizontal nozzles are placed. *I%e pump Installation, located on the deck or in the ship*a hold, presses water into the collector which, under pressure, is ejeated from the nozzles in a continuoras raw of horizontal jets. When hitting the sea surface the jets carry away the upper water layers and produce a surface current beyond the shipis board. The waves running towards the ship and getting into the zone of the counterflow rapidly change their elementst their height considerably increases Card 1/2 Hydraulic stabilizer S/123/61/000/020/029/035 AOOVA101 while their length decreases. The main advantage of the hydraulic stabilizer consists in the fact that its efficiency does not depend on the running speed aid Is preserved also while the ship stands. Investigations showed that the power input of the jets can be found according to an expression being presented. Por normal operation of the hydraulic stabilizer low-pressure pumps of high capacity are required. The collector should have closely arranged nozzles of a diameter ensuring the passage of large amounts of water. There are 1 figure and 5 referenoes. N. Yas TITLE: Laboratory ap5aratus for determination of specific heat of gases at constant pressure (Cp by a continuous flow method SOURCE: IVUZ. Fizika, no. 5, 1963, 179-180 TOPIC TAGS: specific heat of air, air at constant pressure, continuous flow method, specific heat of gas, specific heat isobaric measurement, adiabatic flow calorimeter, calorimetryo thermocouple pyrometer, constant pressure specific head ABSTRACT: A laboratory apparatus using a continuous flow method for determination of the specific heat of air at constant pressure (cp) is described. The basic features are shown in Fig. I on the Enclosure. An air blower (1) and a 10-liter cylinder (2) to smooth out pressure variations supply a steady flow of air at a constant pressure p to the calorimeter Wo The volume V of air passing through the calorimeter in i-time'r is measured by a gas counter (5), An electric heater (4) heats the gas, causing a temperature difference atto exist between the entrance Card ix I :ACCESSION NR: AP4002983 band exit of the calorimetei. This temperature difference is determined by copper- constantan thermocouples (9) and (10), th~ emf of which is measured by a potentiom- eter (3-1). Tables are available for determiningat from the emf. The current I and voltage V supplidd to the heater are measured by the ammqter (6) and voltmeter (7) respectively and can be varied by the,r~eostat (8). To reduce heat losip the .calorimeter is enclosed by'a vacuum Dewar,-Jacket. From the definition of specific heat and using the equation of state of ah ideal gass where R is the universal gas constant. )A is the molecular weight of air and T is .the average absolute 'temperature of the gas in the calorimeter. Here T is room temnerature plus i &t. Good results over the course of two years have been obtain- ed with this apparatAs by students. Orig. art. has: y equations and 2 diagrams.
