PERIODICAL: Grazhdanskaya aviatsiya, 1958, Nr 2. p 9 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: This short article reports on the experimental reductlen
of the crew of an aerial photography aircraft. A radio
operator was trained to operate the camera, while the
maintenance of radio communications was delegated to the
second pilot for the period of actual shooting. Thus
5 men accomplished the work usually done by a crew of six.
The experiment was undertaken to cut the idling time of
camera operators during the 7 winter months. The article
reveals, that during recent years, aerial photography
planes have been eq7aipped with reliable photographic appa-
ratus as well as with statoscopes and photographically

system and established that it exhibits high voltaro polarization.
Te~stg showe3 that 1) the conductivity does not depend on the field direction;
.2) the polarization omf is almost proportional to the applied electric field;
.3) the material has thermoelectret properties; 4) the averspa photopolarization
j05 V) and photoconductivity (15) appeered independent on the epplied field;
*5) the true and residual photoconductivity apnroach quickly the saturation
level, 6) there exists a photoelectrot ststo; and 7) small silver admixtures
(0-.05 at/mol) destroy the photoelectric properties (photoolectret and
photoconductivity) and increase manifold the ordinary conductivity. A discussion'
of these results to also given. The investigation was carried out in

PURPOSE AND COVERAGE: The book explains the origin and effects of icing on
sea navigation, especially with regard to trawlers, and describes mean8 of
preventing and combating it. The author shares his experience of a sea captain
as well as findings of domestic and foreign research on ship icing. The book is
intended as a manual for sailors of the fishing fleet, and as a textbook for
students of navigation schools of the fishing industry.

1 P.71ST ~b%(,T: In the emergence of the central forms of depression
the Individual sections of the cerebral cortex larZe have defl-
nite value. However, the value of these realons of the cortex,
particularly the frontal and preaentral, has been stud-led quite
little In the mechanisms of the central narcotic depression. Thus
the task of this study was to Investigate the electroencephalo-
graphic manifestations of barbiturate narcosis In rabbits after
complete removal of the above cortical regions.

Is accompanied by a short-term depression of the electroericepha-
lographic response to photostimulation of varying frequency. '"I'his
Inhibition Is more clearly expressed In Intact animals than In
those operated on.
ExtIrpation of the 4, 6, and 12 cortical regions in rabbits Is ac-
companied by an Increase In the electroencephalographlc reactlon
to photostimulation In animals both In the state of wakfulness and
especially against the background of thlopentobartital-induoed nar-
cosis. The indicated increased reaction to photostImulation is
expressed in a certain improved assimilation of the medium fre-
quencies of photostimulation (5 OPS) and marked extension of the
assimilated frequency ranges In the direction of low (1 ops) and
large (25 Ops) photostimulation frequencies, usually difficult to
assimilate by Intact animals. fJPRJS

"pharmacological and Clinical Study of Preparations of -Solanum tube-rosum V
Sofia, Eksperimentalna Meditsinm i %forfolop-iya, Vol 5, No 2, pp 130-133
Abstracts Raw potato juice is used as a remedy for constipation, gastric
ulcers, and high blood pressure in Bulgarian, Russian, and German popular
medicine. The combined glycoalkaloids from the external part of the
potato plant and from the skin of tubers were tested phartwtcologically.
While the extract from the external part was toxic, that from the skin of
tubers was not. The latter reduced the blood pressure on intravenous
administration, exhibited an m-cholino-reactive effect which was counter-
acted by atropine, and had a spasmolytic effect on the smooth musculature.
Clinical tests showed that it was an effective remedy for chronic consti-
pation. Twenty-one references (10 Bulgarian, 9 USSR, I Western). Manu-
script received Jul 65. Russian and English sumataries.

Abstract: sovkhoz farms on 1,206 pigs and 6,060 cocks.
Folestrol was injected subcutaneously in a
dose of 8 ml. to pigs weighing up to 100 kg.,
and in a dose of 4 ml. to pigs weighing over
100 kg. Platyphilline was injected thrice at
intervals of 24 hours, in a dose of I ml. of
1% solution. Following the injection, the
adult sows showed higher weight gain (by 8.4
kg. per head) and better meat quality than the
control animals. The cocks used in the experi-
mentation were approximately 2 months old, weigh-
ing 550-600 g. They were administered injections
of 0.65 ml. of folestrol. Folacopon was implan-
ted either in the form of tablets (1-2) or as
a suspension in 3% starch in the same dose as
folestrol. Following the injection of folestrol
