Most crystals grew in the central region of the wire where the temperature was highest. The edges of most crystals were well shaped, and their faces,-irmooth. Dimensions of crystals were from 10 to 200 U, In most cases, the crystals were situated in such a way that either one of the corners or one of the edges was directed to the wire surface. Well-formed crystaila were dodecahedrons; some were nearly regular rhombododecahedrons, the others being stretched in the direction perpendicular to the wire axis. Conductivity measurements show that CdTe can he a semiconductor of the p- or n-type, According to the kind of impurities introduced or the -stoichionetric'excess of cadmium or tellurium In the crystal. Impurt- -ties of groups III and VII of elements or a stoichionetric excenj of cadaLus will Leld n-type semiconductivity, while Impurities of groups y and Vofelesente or a stoichioestric excess of tellurium will yield Card. 1/2 ACCNR' AP6009603 -.P-type conductivity. Impurities of type a cause smaller electrifica- tion than Impurities of type p given the same concentration. Smaller electrification of n-type doped CdTe is caused by increased conductivitt The-CdTe crystals used for experiments were obtained from zone-melted Cd and Te and doped with several impurities at the Semiconducting Materials Laboratory of theAnstitute of Physics of the Polls!!~d~en of Sciences ini Warsaw.- Dust electrification measurements of CdTe crystalss pure and doped, were carried out by the Kunkel and Hansen method. A polycrystalline CdTe structure was used for measurements. The authors.wish to express their gratitude to Dr. W. Girlat for kindly supplytag:then.vith the materials and for his interesting remarks. The degree of turbidity at an optimum pH (4-5-5-5) is measured with a Langer photocolorimeter, using a green filter (the measurement is made 25 minutes after the mixing of the reagent). Calibration curves are constructed both for the solution of I and for the product of its partial acid hydrolysis (PH) (the viscosity of a 5% solution of hydroiyeate at 200 is 1.5-1j). For I the reaction proceeds best when the concentration or I to 0.5-1,; mg/mij the best concentration for PH is 0.01-0.5 mg/mi.
