TITLZ: Concentration isoto*pes In sea waters PERIODICALi RadlokhlmlYa, v.3, no.5, 19611, 623-635 TEXT3 A method or concentrating thorium Isotopes from largo volumes of natural waters (200-500 11tres) by their coprocipitation with Iron hydroxid* on cold and the determination of thorium and tonium in the concentrates obtained was developed. The experimental procedure is described in detail. Using this method the concentration of thorium Isotopes in waters of various parts of the Block and Azov Some was determined. The concentration of thorium and Ionium in the water of the open part of the Black So& was found to be (2.2 t 0.2) x 10-9 g/litr* and (2.5 ! 1.0) x 10-13 g/litre respectively. It was shown that the concentration of thorium Isotopes in water docroas*s from coastal parts to the open sea which Is explained by decreasing concentrations of suspended matter in the water. That the concentration of thorium decreases nor# sharply than that of tonium or radiothorium in explained by the fac' that thorium-232 Card 1/2 Concentration of thorium isotopes ... s/186/61/003/0,05/917/022 9071/9185 is mainly confined to the coarser terrigeneous part of the suspended matter and ionium and rodlothorium to the finer colloidal part which mottles to the bottom such more slowly and is carried out Into the open sea. The work was carried out in cooperation with the Institut okeanoloXii AN SSSR (1netituts of Oceanology, AS USSR). Acknowledgments are expressed to Corresponding Member AS USSR I.To. Experience gained over a long operating tim shows that corrosion dasiage first appears on air-flap shutter housings, housings and cooling jackets of external gas-flap shutters, and underwater parts of exhaust piples.
