Ranges and Specific Iontsation of Multi-Charged Iors In
Geaft
fo~ the tr&naition from hydrogen into air the cogfficient
0. -9 't C*01. The last paragraph gives a Jiscussion of the rem
sults. Tne ranges of the ions in air, measured by rjeans of a
ionisation chamber are by about I mm shorter than the ranges
measured by a counter* This can be explained qualitatively only
by nuclear collisions . The slowing down power of the photoer-lile
sion for the here examined iom In air resembles the slowing down
power for=L - particles. The results of the measuring of the
specific losses in case of the ior.914H agree with the data already
known before within the experimental errors. But the here found
data for the ions *Orm are by 3oO/o higher than the values fOL.-d
before. 7his difference can hardly be explained by the influen:e
or nuclear collisions.
There are 5 figures, 2 tables, and 26 referercos, 7 of which are
Soviet.

TZXTs The present paper describes an experimental study of the oquillbriuz
charge distribution of ions of light olem*nts (2 4. Z 4 18) and of tr ions
In helium, nitrogen, argon. krypton, and celluloid foil. Besides, the
author# measured the charge exchange cross sections of these tons In gas*s.
A 72-ca cyclotron (Rof. 3) served as the soureg of fast, multiply chargpd
ions. The experimental arrangement to shows In Fig. i. The equilibrium
