TITLE: Spin absorption in some paramagnetic salts in parallel fields

TEM The present paper deals with a theoretical explanation of experi-
mental results obtained by Gorter et al. (Physica, Vol. 14, P. 839).
Gorter studied four different sulfates (at 20.40K and %). 1.325-10 90ps),
and found that the dependence of the imaginary part X" of the complex
magnetic susceptibility on the strength H a of the constant magnetic field
is a monotonically decreasing function for all four salts. It may, however,
as suggested by Gorter, be described neither by XIIIX!1(0) - (1-F) nor by
XIIA"(0) - (1-F) 2, as assumed by Russian scientists. (A"(0) is t-he X"
value at H .0, and 1-F - (b/C)/(b/c + H2), where C is the Curie constant,

and b is the constant of the magnetic specific heat). It may, however, as
shown here by a comparison with experimental results, be satisfactorily

spin paramagnetic absorption. 'r a is the isothermal relaxation time of the
magnetic moment. Agreement is good, although T s is assumed to be inde-
pendent of Hc. The latter formula is not at all a oximated by the
first-named one, and by the second only if OtU13 TS] 1, a condition
which was not satisfied in the experiments by Gorter et al. The author
