Thus, improvements in the "'flow-through se~ctio~#'of the turbine (that is, the
section between the inlet and outlet valve through which the stead passe~u~
resulted in an .efficiency increase from 4.71 tp G,$7. Losses caused by 1.;he end
clearance (betw~aen the blades of'the working Wheel and the framed in rad~l,al�
axial {centriget.al3 turbines compriso ix 1.57 for each percent of incrnc~se in
the relative clearance. This is considexal~ly lower than the same lasses in
axial turbinels haviti-g blades without banding (1,476 - x.a9x, lasses for eacl:- per-
. centage point of= radial clearancej. Increasing the end clearance leads :;;o higher

Noting the almloQt total lack of ingormation in available literature on t~tis
subject and th,e absence of recoamendatians with respect to blade height ~:ar the
� calculation oi'radial�sxiel turbines, the experimental work on the toast turbine was
continued. An. analysis of thug e~�fect of end clearancES (that is, the clearance
between the blades of the working wheel and the frame) on the speration cif such a
turbine was also carried out. Thesua tests showed that:.efficisncy increa~ces to a
certain limiting blade height (in the case o� the autt-ors' turbine ~ :G1.07~),
. by virtue of the increase in thus curvature o� the sad wall, causing ~n increase
in flow tuna Losses, a slight reduction of efficiency may begin if the b~,ade
� height is �urther increased. The reduction in ef�icie:ncy which accompanies
small blade heights is fuadamentally the result of increased disk and nox~Ie
~~osses. With , l reduced from 0.118 to 0.�286, disk lc-eses rose from 2x to 7t, _
