Resistance welding M45 3/125/61/000/007/001/013 DC40/D112 Tubes from carbon and stainlees steel were welded ir- the experiments, all 38 = in diametex, Pnd with 2 mm-thick vallso The weldii.,ig speed reached with stainlesB Dteel tubes was 27 m/min. The lower spseE reached with carbon steoI7 22 m/mins is explained by the difference betreen the physical prop- extits of the ateelso and the three times higher recistimce of the carbon steelg Tests of tubes welded by this method showed they had the same prop- exties as seamless tubes. The corrosion resistance of joints of tubes welded. by radio-fTequbncy Current was higher than that of welds produced by an aTgon-shielded are, It was found that intense sparking vas not neces- sary for obtaining joints with a strength equal to that of the base metal. It was obvious that the advantage of the method is higher with smaller carbon steel tube diameters, and it is recommended to determine by trial the proper maximum tube diameter up to which the application of this method is goonom- ioally justifiede The nevy technology includes remoral of the burr on the tube inside by an oxygen jet immediately after upsetting of the tube bet- v7sen the rolls, when the burr is still hot. The design of one of the first oxygen nozzles is shown (Pig-5). The oxygen jet out of the nozzle slit is thin and wide, and is directed across the burr. The burr was removed fully Card 2/5 P/125/61/000/007/OP3./-03.3 DO esistance,velding- 4. 40/.Dll~ S~d cclntimuaI3.7~ it-, wiiai5a, peea.": "The, -tube suTfacp- 'at the seam'-was Be-. 9.-S3 `ahd : the rer~aindsi bf the'burx-di m a 'at exceed the tolerance, -,of tube' wall thiollmesB' -_ Slag b1cm. off the. soIan by the Ijet"Could bi sep- j 11B b3r'~ lcir.' eking on the* oixbsidii of the tube, 'One arited 6,pil7lrom'the to 0 Ile, .argon are zavod -601 77blding stand at Nikopollski7 Yuzhnotrubnyy (South 10 -eq lon. vieldinir with Man-b in Nikapol'). has, Ii6en Ile . ii:pqjed :For izduct., ~200 k~ 407 (M-207). tube Canerators' A btrong water jet vas used to ~3),roteot~Me ferrite core- from metil so ter*' a ir e 5 iiguTes'and 5 ref-' Ther erancesi 2 Soviet-bloo'and 3"non-Scviot-bloc), The two references two _I~Iglishm language pu6licatiom read. as :Vollovs:*.W,C,Rudaj ligh Fxoquency,Resistafioe, 'L,AsJonato:Ij YOST Veldina '".Weldin8'qoUTnal11?' 40971 1957; wetter 'G*Y,. (I)has the dLsadvantage that it is not possible to maintain constant t-ie hydrostatic pressure durinf,: the tests. The test rig u.3ed by Ratner, S.I. (2) for tensile tests of non-ferrous metals under conditions of external hydrostatic pressures oC up to 4000 k&/cmc did permit maintaininc, the pressure c:)nstantv for the entire duration of the tests. In the Metal Physics Institute of the Ural Brarvh of the Ac.Sc. U.S.S.R. a test rig vias desiGned and built permitting 2 testing of metals under pressures of up to 10 OOU kg cm %,jLth automatic recording of the test resulLs. The rig consists of a high pressure chamber, a suall hydraulic press, a high pressure compressor and electrical apparatus. A s.,~,.etch of the main assembly of the test rig is shown in CaTd 2/2 FLe.l, P-532; the basic electrical circuit d4 aLrran is shown ia Fig.2, P-533. The high pressure caumber coacists of a taick wall steel cylinder with an external di&meter of 126-3-2j'34 Rij; for investigating the mechanical properties of metals unt~,er high hydrostatic pressure. (Cont.) 200 mm, an internal diameter of 20 mm and a length of 230 mm. Automatic recording of the stress-strain curves is effected by means of electrical circuits incorporating sti,ain gauges, a multi-channel electronic amplifier, a loop oscillograph and other instruments. A typical oscillogram obtained during deformation of hardened Be bronze under a -pressure of 3000 kg/cm2 is reproduced in Fig.3, P-534 indicating the tensile stress, the hydrostatic pressure and the deformation. The graph, Fig.4, gives the dependence -of the tensile stress on deformation for hydrostatic pressures of 30D0 atm and 1 atm. The hydrostatic pressure increases app:veciably the yield Doint but the increase in the tensile str-~ss with i2creasing deformation at a hydrostatic pressure of 5000 kF,/cm is considerably lower than at atmospheric prelasure. To reduce the long expootire times normally required for X-ray investigations at high pressures, the Institut fiziki metallov AN SSSR (Institute of Physics of Metals, Ac.Sc,., USSR) have developed and made an electronic X--ray tube which can be taken apart. The tube (Fig 1) is of simple construction and provides a very powerful X-ray beams The cathode is connected to a URS-70 X-ray apparatus inter-locked with a TsVL-lOO c4ffusion punlp~ Suitable provision is made for avoij-ing'yingress of' 0.11 vapour., There are 3 figures and I Soviet reference. TITLE3 Effect of praBsure on the electrical TaBistance and the Ealvanomagnatic effect in chromium telluride PERIODIC kL 3 Zhurnal eksperimentallnoy i te-reticheakoy fiziki, v. 40, no. 2, 1961t 433-440 TSXT 3 I'he temperature dependence-of the electrical resistance and the isotharzal lines of the galvanozagzetic effect x - bli/E were measured in the temjer~ture range of magnetic transformation at a pressure of 4600 kg/'cm . A h4h-pressure chamber of auatenitic steel was used for the nvasurement. The object to be observed was placed in the lover part of the chamber which was situated betvaen the poles of an electro- Th' magnet. a ere were five electric leadB in the upper part of the chamber. One of these was used for measuring the ele~.Arical resistance of a Manganix, manometer. The other four leads were used.for the measurement of the clectrical resistance of th-,, preparation and the measurement of Card 1h, 20453 S/05'1/61/040/002/006/047 BIV~B214 "Ufect 01, pressure on the... temperattre. The hydrostatic pressure in the chamber was produced by mcans of a high-pressure compressor according,to the system of L. F. Vey-eshchagin. Measurements shoved that the electrical resistance -of chromium telluride increased with the pressurej no hysteresis effect was observed. In the pressure range used R_ IdR/dp was equal to T -4 -1 2 1~1`1-5)10 kg cm . On the basis of this, it was assumed that a com- Prezaien on all sides must lead to a shift of the Curie point of chro=d= telluride toward lover temperatures. However, this effect must be sufficiently large. Direct measurements of the tenperature dependence ..Of the ele~txical resistance at atmospheric pressure and a ressure of '600 'KE/cz gave forthe Curie point the values 58 C and 31 C, reSD eC ely. Odes sk. politekhn. in-t, 1956, Vol 9, pp 55-60 ABSTRACT: The results of fat.gue tests on samples made from normalized steel 6 and steel 40X are reported in the article. The cross- sectional openings and blind drillings were performed with a 3-mm drill bit on steel-6 ! pecimens 15-mm in diameter and with an 8-mm drill bit on st,:el 40X specimens 12-mm in diameter. The tests were carried cat on a NU machine on the basis of 5xjo6 cycles, It was estal lisbed that in both of the materials the fatigue limit and the effectii e stress concentration factor K(7, is practic- ally the same for tht specimens with openings and those with partial drillings. Yie tests performed on specimens having five closely spaced drillings equal in depth, did not show any effects of mutual stress alh viation. Increasing the size of the crosspieces CBTd 1/2 between tbt! drillingi had an insignificant effect on the fatigue limit; 124-1957-10-12256 The Fatigue Strength of Samples M ith Cross-sectional (cont. ) - I I the magnitude of KCr was It is voiced that by charging the VOU3.d not , alter notic tably. commenced at the edl es of slightly decreased. Specimens from grade 45 and 409 ROM) steel 15 mm In diameter with transverse alartures 5 Am in diameter were tested at different overstrain levels. The elfect of relaxation of 12 - 15 hours was determined through 0.05 N and 0.1 N (N - normal durability at the given over- strain level, equal to 30 and 22 kg/mm? respectively). The mean increase in cyclic durability at 6 - 30 kg/=2 a mounted to 22% for specimens of grade 45 steel and 22% for 40Kh grade steel, while this value was 8 and 6.6% respectively at 8'- 22 kzVmm~2. Based on these results the following conclusions were drawn: Relaxation can increaae the cyclic durability not only of low-carbon steels but also of steels with a high C-conteni; this takes place the more intensively Card 1/2 The effect of discontinuities ... 27077 S/123/61/000/015/004/032 A004/AIOI the more frequent the discontinuities occur. Stress raiserz apparently somewhat reduce but do not eliminate the favorible effect of relaxation. The origination of the first fatigue micro-cracks redlices or completely excludes the positive effect of relaxation. The effect of -.-elaxation can be explained by the agLrIg of the solid. solution of ol. -iron containi d in the steel. A.
