and D9C03. As additive - refractory clays (Chaso-
vy,-lrf-.caya or Vilidshtein), and bentonite. As rain-
eralJzers - ZuO, Zr02 and PbO. The raw ingredi-
ento were first ground in the ball mills separately
then were compounded by weight to give a desired
comp(-sition of M. Five different M batches were
prepi.red that differed from each other by their
comp(,sition of basic ingredients., additives and
minei-alizers (in quantities of 2, 4 and 6%). The
tota:, number of M samples was 22. Mixed N samples
were subjected to the wet grinding in laboratory
stonitware mills at the ratio of M: balls: water of
1:1:'. for 48-50 hours and until residue on the
0.0611m sieve was quinone as a selective reagent for lead.

TITLE: An Optical Instrument for Measuring the Radius of Curves
(Opticheskiy pribor dlya 12mereniya radiusa zakrugleniya)
PLRIODICAL: Izmeritellnaya tekhnika, 1958, Nr 1, pp 18 - 19 (USSR)
A];STRJACT: This is a detailed description of the design and operations
of a new optical device, consisting of a double microscope,
for checking t-he radius of edges of small bores. The device
produces an "optic section", visible in the focus plane of
the ocular, from which the bore radius must be computed.
The absolute error of measurements on radiuses of 0.5 to
0.8 mm is about 0.03 to 0.05 mm. There is 1 photo, I dia-
gram and 2 Soviet references.

ADISTRACT: The author describes the IZK-59 microscope for mea-
suring thzee basic elements of internal thread. This
device is based on the dual microscope of Academi-
cian V. 1, linnik. For applying the system of the
dual microscope fox measuring internal thread with a
pitch exceeding 0.5 mm, the flat slit was replaced
by a spatial one, having a shape similar to the
thread profile. The thread measuring IZK-59, shown
in Figure 1. is an accessory to the universal mea-
suzing micxoscopes UEI-21 and UER-22. The tasio
parts and the slits are located inside the measuring
head which is screwed into the cpening of the main
microscope housing which serves fox fastening the
lenses. The illumination devices of microscopes ME-
21 and UE4-22 axe used as light sources. One and
the same spatial slit of the microscope may be used
fox measuring Vetric and inch thread having a profi--

may be increased to 190 mm. by shif ting the conterln,~~,,

direction of the observer. When measuring the pitch
or the diameter, the reading devices from micro-
scopes UD-1-21 or U114-22 are used. The errors when
performing measurefents in combination w4th the UTY-

fox the diameter and 8-15 minutes for Profile angles
depending upon the thread piuch. The IZK-59 may
find application in the machinebuilding industry and
at shipyards. Presently, the IZK-59 is produced by
one of the plants of the leningrad sovnarkhoz. Ther,=

SOURCE: Fribory i tekhnika ekBpeximenta, no. 6, 1965, 23-26
TOPIC TAGS: synchrotron, proton beem, computer prorromming
ABSTRACT: Two types of proton - synchrotron operation are usually required for
physical experiments at OIYal: (1) Short (50-500 insec) burBts of particles for
z)ubble-chambCTB and 12) longer (up to 200 mBec) pulses for counters. A programing
system was developed which con sists of a 7-channel operation -sequence unit, a
zommand unit, a target-control unit, field sensors, a supply-control unit, and
!unction manipulators. Several methods are envisaged for slow and last application
DI the beam to various targets. Only block diagrams and short explanations are
3resented. Orig. art. has: 4 figures.

ABSTRACT: The construction and per,"or =-cc of a device used for the of
principal stresses in materials are'described~ The work was done at the Lenir.L=ad
Institute of Precise Mechanics (Leningradskiy institut tochnoy me:.-dhaniki) and the
Yoscow Structural Engineering Institute (1,',oskovskiy inzhenerno-stroitellnyy instl:;U~;).
The device is.the triDle-Dlate interferometer IT (see Fig. 1). 7he interferome-~er
consists of three li&'It-seDarating covers A, B, and C set on glass plates. The light
paths are shown in Fig. 1:-rays 1 and 2 form the interference pattern of greate-9t
intensity, and all calculations are referenced to these two. The variation of the

Principal stresses are then related to the oi7der of interference by the equation

The authors illustrate by example how the device may be used to d,atermine the sum of
principal stresses and each principal stress individually. The d,avice itself is
-noted as being simple in construction and in use, compact, and stable with -respect to
vibration and temperature variation. Orig. art. has; 5 figures and 5 eciuations.
