The main disadvantages of bottom pouring'are Ito requirement of additional equipmont (refractory materials, bottom plateso etc*)., more working hour3t loss of metal in casting chnnnals, and their easy ruptpre. Top pouring is ,free from these shortcoming3, produces better microstructurej and in more wmnable to automation. However, bottom pouringwaa preferred until recently. The old method of top casting resulted in an Inadequate ingot surface on alloy steela,, required an overamcleaning of the IngoL, and caused the adhesion of metal to the bottom of the mould because of the strength of jet impact against !~Cod- 1/2~ ....... Was= 115574-63 ACCESSION R: AT30MI70 the mould bottom. The nwi top-pouring procedurs was worked out and tested in 1.1960. The formation of mirface defects was elimin0ted by Covering the moulft ;with spacial g1338 fabric and by using a corta-in -mount of 2iquid x1ag In pcurlng. ',This protected the exposett metal surface and prevonted the bottom sticking. The authors conclude that despite an 8-10% loss of Ion barAing the quality of stain- Iless steel was not, affectod, that the now procedure of top exating is much 'simpler, that it produces tho same results, and that it is Uss expensive than 'the bottom pouring. TITLEs Transplanting of Internal Organs (Peress6ka vnutronnikh organov) PERIODICALs Nauka I Zhisn' - June 1957, Ot p 51 (USSR) ABSTRACTI In a special laboratory of the First Moskva Medical Institute imeni I.M. Sechenov (Pervyy moskovskiy meditainskiy inatitut imeni I.N. Sechenova) experiments on dogs are carried out with regard to transplanting vital organs, as for example hearts, lungs, etc. A dog, whose heart and lungs had been removed and replaced by a now set of these organs could breathe and showed normal blood circulation. He at* and drank, but died six days later. Another experiment was conducted with two dogs that belonged to two different blood groups whose femoral arteries were sewn together. The difference in the blood composition began gradually to disappear, but the dogs lived only 10 days. Much attention is devoted to improve the method of curing scle- rosis of the coronary vessels by sewing the internal pectoral artery directly into the injured coronary artery. Experiments to that effect are also conducted with dogs. Card 1/2 OSIPOV, Te. ProphylAxle of vibration disonse. Zdorov'o 5 no.12:27 D '59. This brought about a lowering of their vinco3ity, Acety-lation of PVA volutions; with formaldehyde in the presence of sulfuric acid resulted in an increased viscosityp but caused no gel formation. Treatment with 0.06% succinic dialdehydo caused gelation in PVA solutions in obncentrationB above 1-5 gm/100 Ml- At lower concentrations tho viscosity vat; lowered with time. ORG: none TITLE: Photo interpreting device SOURCE: G~e~ezip i kartografiya, no. 3, 1966, 50-52 TOPIC TAGS: photo interpretation, aerial photography, optic prism ABSTRACT: A new photo interpreting device (interpretoscope) developed by the Karl Zeiss.elant in Jena is described. The apparat-us is well adapted for stereoscopic ex- I amination of photographs and films. A pancratic system permits continuous change in magnification in one or both optical sections. Liquid light filters permit continuous change of image brightness. Stereoscopic operation is possible with both direct and reflected light. By the use of Schmidt prisms, photographs can be rotated through an angle of 3600. Longitudinal parallax can be measured with a precision of 0.05 mr. A table compares the Karl Zeiss model with photo interpreters manufactured in the US (Bausch and Lomb), the USSR (SZS stereoscope), and Holland (ODSS-111). A photograph of the inter-pretoscope appears in the article. The author concludes that the high cost of the interpretoscope (approximately 4500 rubles) is an obstacle to its wide- spread use.
