ABSTRACTt Thf. present paper inv(stigates the interacti.)n of protons with
the enerLzies 130, 143 and 660 MeV with the heavy nuclei of a
photoemulvion. lh~s apallatior, process is conposed of a cr-scaue
process and an eval-oration process. The here described metlit.d
has already been described on a previous occasion (OSTRO-,'MOV,V.1.,
Doklady Akademil Nauk SSSR, 1955, Vol 103, p 413).
Experimental orderi The author usen plates with a fine - grained
emulsi,n P-9 as well as plates with the emulsion NIKF1 Typ K f3r
parallel tests. The thickness of the photo layer amounted to 150 t"-.
The emulsion recorded protons with from 30 - 55 MeV, and on the
occasion of an experiment carried out with 1AO MeV the sensitivity
of the emulsion was N'IKF1 100 YeV. Irr6diaticn was cerried out tith
a collimated bindle of protons with 140, 46C, and 650 MeV or, the
synchrocyclotron of the Institute fcr FucleE.r Problems of the Academy
of Science of the ~j.S.S.H.

these nuclei.
The energy spectrum of protons: "he energy cf the proions in the
nuclei was measured from the length of the traceb wnic.-. are
brou6bt to a standstill in the photoemulsior.. Ihe energ-y spectra
of protons ~or more exactly: of the simply charged particl~-g; in
the stars :or:7.ed by the protons with .:60 and 660 MeV are shown
in form of a diagram. f-ith increasing excitation ener6y also tne

ABSTRACT: Nuclear emulsions of 100 and 200 P thickness, which were
saturated with an aqueous solution of NaUCI 2(C2H3 02),, were
subjected to the action of a proton beam (if 660 M~V. The
fissioning of the uranium nucleus was connected with the
forming of charged particles. A total of 5201 fissions
(1156 in the thicker emulsion) were recorded. The "beam"-
compo&ition of the fission, i.e. the distribution of the
light, charged particles produced by the fission, amotinted
to:
0 beams - 45,7 ; 1 beam - 25,3 %; 2 beams 15,7 %;
3 beams - 8,5 ~; 4 beams - 4,2 %; 5 beams 1,' ~
