It is applied to crystals of cubic -, ' but the method can also be used for crystals of other symmetry. The properties of the tensor defining the intensity of combination scattering are examined by applying a perturbation to the system. It is shown that the tensor is insensitive to small perturbations and an a result an wave function approximation can be used neglecting the non-adiabatic operator. The calculations show that two frequencies will be observed: a large longitudinal oscillation and two smaller degenerate transverse oscillations. Equations are derived for the scattered intensity in the longitudinal and transverse oscillations. These equations show that the longitudinal component has a large backwards scatter and the transverse forward.
