the X-Ray K-Spectra of Some Sulfides B006YB017
of the X-ray emission- and absorption spectra of both components in
CUS and NIS (the latter In two crystalline modifications) and, for
reason of comparison, also the fine structure of the spectra of pure
metals. All measurements were carried out by means of the same instrument
and with the oame roforenov lines The apectra were recorded in a
vacuum X-ray spectrograph with quartz crystal (radius of curvatura 500 mm,
focusing by the Kapits&-logann method), with photographic recordin
The sulfur spectra were produced in firat-order reflection at the 71oTi;
plane, that of copper at the (1374'0) plane of the rhombohedr&l crystal
The most favorable absorber thickness for recording details of fine 2
structure was - as shown Yy calculations and experiments 1-1.5 mg/Om
for sulfur, and 4-5 mg/cm for copper. Hence. for investigating the sulfur
spectrum the absorber_thickne a was 4 mg/cm 2. and for investigating that
of Ift and Cu it was 6 7 mg/cm - [Abstracter's notei The authors always

samples]. Table 1 shows the values of wavelengths averaged from the
results of 3-5 measurements. Fig I shows the absorption- and emission

rITLE. A study of the X-ray spectra of NiS

TEXT: In order to elucidate the nature of the chemical bonds in NiS
the author investigated X-ray spectra of elemental Ni and S, and of
their compounds: Millerite and another sulphide of the NiAs type. Theme
sulphides were obtained by a previously described method. Their diffrac--
tion patterns showed well efined one-phase systems and their chemical
analysis a stoichiametric ratio of compounds, with very small amounts of
impurities: Ng, Cu, Fc, Al and Ti. The X-ray spectra determinations
were carried out with a Johann** spectrograph of high resolving power.
The results art tabulated. It was found that 1) K - borders of absorp-
tion of pure S and S in mill*rite are very similar, but the K-border in
millerite is shifted towards long wavelength&; 2) the ratio of emission

testa light violet; the luminescence of the
farinaceous part was light violet or bluish
violet, and presented no idea as to viability.

In the rootlets and cotyledons, as well the dark
blue ones In the rootlets. The luminescence In
the yellov. seeded varieties (No 471, VNII14K-249,
Golden) linseed-oil flax was yellowish-greenish.
In the oat seeds the flower husks were stripped
off and a transverse cut was made In the embryos.
Depending on the extent of viability the section
yielded a blue fluorescence of varying brilliance.

TITLE: Dendritic Structure in.Single Crystals of Silicon
Grown from the Melt by Czochralskils Method-

TEXT: A dendritic structure was found in a number of specimens
of single crystals of silicon,-Ioriented to show the III pl all L-
and etched in a mixture of HF, HNO 3 and (CH3CO)20 in the ratio
of 1;3:3. The origin of this structure appears to be crystal-
lisation at a temperature below the temperature at which certain
impurities separate out from the melt. Here, dendritic groinh
is most frequent when crystals are pulled out of technical sil-
icon (purity 99.7 - 99.8%). Dendrites are developed in the
Ill planes and when a section across them is cut in the Ill
plane a picture is obtained which is very like that found in the
octahedral slipping in crystal of Ge and Si when dislocations are
developed. In purer materials dendrite formation is connected
