The authors llse-o:ated 3 strains oi dividine yeasts
(fro,-n ~tLpple and cherry _1,.ilce at the Simferopol' Winery
and from apple pitce at t.fte Saratov Winery). In its
mor-phologic an(J biochernical properties these yeasts
resemble Schizosacchar( acidodevorates
Ghalenko, differing only in the formation of an olive-
colored pigment. It was shown that the quantitative
ratios of dividing and ellipsoid yeasts have an influence

decrease orcurs only when they are present in a ratio
1.20: therefore, the qttantitattve predominance of
commercial yeasts should be very great. The
decrease in acidity is produced by the utilization of
malic acid in the presence of sugar. With the aim of
controlling the dividing yeasts it is recommended that
the vessel be treated with chlorine (10 milligrams of
active chlorine ner liter of water for 20 minutes)' and
that the fruits also be treated with chlorine (5-10

COVERAGE: In this volume the general theorems of elastic-systems
stability and methods-of determinirg the critical loads for
frameworks and plates are discussed. Problems of the stability of
prismatic and nonprismatic bars and the determination of the Euler
load are solved by several methods. Some problems related to sta-
bility (e.g., the Yasinskiy problem) are discussed. The elastic
behavior of bars after buckling under various support conditions
and the effect of initial pure flexure and deviations from Hooke's
law on critical load maRnitude are Pwamined. The Ptabilit% of the
sLaLe. of plane flexure unde-r pure bendi-4g~,iand under cnnrentriten? load is
analyzed oy using Ritz's method and the method oi successive
approximations. The stability of plates of uniform and variable
thtekness, of plain and stiffened plates, of plates with initial
buckling (imperfections) under various loading and boundary con-
ditions are discussed. No personalities are mentioned. There are
122 references: 66 Soviet and 56 non-Soviet.
