ABSTRACT: Men'-ionin(- the 3oviet moon rocket, the author Gives a
brief survey of the trajectory control of s,-,ace
rockets. The trajectory of the moon rocket con3isted
of a power phase and a drift phase. As regards t.-j-
jectory con~,rol, the po-;~er phase is import~znt, es --e-
cially the proyelling force of the last stage of I
the
rocket, which imparts the final direction to the
rocket. Remote control of the drift phase is ir,-
possible. Remote control of 1;he la3t rocket stage
was mastered for the first tine by 13oviet scientists.

ophthalmia sympathies afteraubconjunctival rupture of the mclera, traumatic rupturt,
ofthe peripheral retina, traumatic papillitis stellata, hysterotraumatic ainblyopia.
siderosis and chalcosis of the lens);the injuries ofthe whole eyeball (nash of light-
ning, perforation. explosion. chemical burns, avulsion). U. There are 2 statistics of
the eye injuries. According to the latest statistics (1950- 1951) there have been 699
serious eye injuries of which there were 17% children up to the age of 15 anti 21. 7% to
the age of 20;there were 52. 5% of adults from 20- 50 yr. of age . The statistics give

2152. THE TREATMENT OF VARICOSE VEINS: A PERSONAL PROCEDURE -
Ue traltement des varices, procedt personnel - P a a c o I e s c u T. Buca-
rest - PRESSE MED. 1957, 65/79 (1781) Illus. 4
The procedure consists in pefcutaneous ligation of the variceo; such ligation
leaves no scars. A loop Is laid around the vessel: the needle. with a nylon or silk
thread, is inserted under the vein and emerges on the other side, is then reintro-
duced into the opening from which it has emerged, and passes back under the skin,
but this time over the vein, to emerge again at the first orifice of entry. Traction
on the thread makes it close Its loop around the vein; the thread to knotted over a
small tampon and, when it in removed 10 days later, no trace remains.

PAFtAZITOL.EPMEMIOL. 1958. 27 -278~
This epidemic occurred among persons who had eaten meat from 2 seemingly
healthy pigs. In all, 24 cases were seen. 2 of them very severe (one of these
taking a fatal, encephaUtic form), 12 severe. 7 taking 'formes frustes', and 3

remaining asymptomatic. Diagno%is was made on the basis of the rlniral
and of the presence of the parasite in the meat of whirh the pal ients had eaten.
Incubation times were 7-24 days, with an average duration of ;6 dayb. The 3
developmental periods: gastro-intestinal period, period of general infection and
period of fixation of the larvae in the muscular masses (with the resulting myalgia
and muscular rigidity) were relatively clearly discernible only in the seve, e cases
of the disease (50%), In the other cases, the disease firbt became manifest in the
2nd or 3rd phase. Frequencies of some of the symptons were: fever. 71, 3,79 (only
3 casea without fever); profuse sweating, 100%, oedema (sometimes extremely
pronounced), 58%; myalgias in all cases, cosinophilia, also present in all cases.
even in the asymptomatic forms. Leucocytosis. from 10.000 to 33 000 appeared
at the same time as the fever, The patellar and Achilles tendon-reflexes were
abolished in 16.5%. Various forms of treatment were administered: symptomatic.
anti-allergic. Sb salts (antimosaw, 'stibophed). which appeared to have no effect
on the duration of the stages of the disease, or on the severity of the symptoms.
cortisone, which might have decreased the allergic manifestations, was not used
during the epidemic. Of the 12 patterillm followed up. only one rtmained without
residual symptoms Iso far. for 8 months). Pecurariu - OraVul Slalin (L, 6)

For 7 yr. (MI-1958) the authors have studied a number (if 121.) patients suffering
from phlyctenular keratoconjunctivitis (pkc), aniong Miom were "-'80 children. 'I hf-N
found that the manifestation of ocular phenonicim. especially in Ouldren. coin( Ided
with a state of allergy due to the Koch bacillus. I he likc ma"Y be due to tile folloN, Ing
causes: (1) Koch bacilli reaching the child's conjunctiva from sick per-ions aniong
those around him. (2) Bacillar> toxins reaching the child's conjunctiva through the
blood circulation and originatinp from a tuberculous lesion of the chilo itself. These
cases of pke are usually serious and relapses are frequent. (3) Ilii- illness ma.v also
be caused by various non-specific agents attacking an organism already hennitized
to the Koch bacillus (non-specific allergy). Such are: the staphylococcus, tile toxilis
of intestinal parasites. weather factors, etc. The author believes that in all tile
cases of pkc appearing in children. there is a direct relation with the existence of
a recent bacillary infection. and it must therefore always be looked upon as an alarm
