ABSTRACT: The results are presented of regional seismic investigations conducted in
the southern Ukraine in 1961-1962 by the correlation method of refracted waves
and deep seismic sounding using continuous profiling. Borehole and available
geophysical data were utilizeJ in compiling a structural schematic map of the
Crimean Plateau and Prisivash'ye along the surface of the Paleozoic basement. It was
established that the basement has a block structure. A system of submeridional and
sublatitudinal faults disects the territory into a number of large structures. The
Paleozoic basement lies at depths ranging from 0-1 to 6-9 ~n. The seismic data
do not confirm that the transverse Perekop uplift is the boundary between the
Karkinitskaya and Sivashakaya depressions. The Novo-Tsarin gravity anomaly is

attributed to the deep-seated fault containing intrusions of basic and ultrabaoic
rocks. A seismic-geologic iron section of the Earth's crust along the voronzh
massif-Black Sea profile was prepared from available deep-seismic data. Up to
4 interfaces with boundary velocities between 6.6 and 7.1 km/sec have been estab-
lished at depths of 1.5 to 10 km below the crystalline basement in the area of
the southern slope of the Ukrainian shield. The basaltic layer with a boundary
velocity of 6.6-7.4 km/sec is found along the whole profile at eepths between
5-8 and 18-20 km. The Mohorovicic. discontinuity with a boundary velocity of
8.1-8.2 km/sec was also traced along the whole seismic line. The depth to the
Mohorovicic discontinuity varies from 22-30 km in the region of the Black Sea to
45-50 km in the Crimean Mountains and the Dnieper-Donets sulowgere.- Orig. art.

In the prophylaxis and therapy of shock, stress is laid on the interruption of the

ABSTRACT: Authors describe a starter electric contaot for automatic starting of jet
aircraft, particularly military craft, which is powered by alternating current but
supplies direct current to both the starter and the on-board electric network. It
actually comprises two rectifier branches (main and auxiliary) each being equipped
with a transformer and a semiconductor rectifier, also with remote controlled con-
tacts and relays so arranged that the primary coil of the main transformer when at
rest position is disconnected from the power circuit by switching contacts, and the
converter primary coil is connected to the main rectifier output through another con-
tact and rest contacts. The primary coil of the auxiliary three-phase transformer
at rest position is disconnected from the supply circuit by another contact and
the first relay kicked dmin to the output of the auxiliary rectifier is connected in-

AMTRACT: 7he authors investigated the dependence of the intensity of electro-
luminescence on the current and voltage in cL-SiC (types 4H, 6H, and 21R). The in-
vestigated junctions were prepared by separate and slmdtaneous diffusion of alumi-
num and boron in the n-type silicon carbide crystalep alloyed beforehand with
nitrogen and boron. The results were a pnr& structure# with the holes injected
through the P-n Junctions and the electrons through the n-n+ contact. The theory
of the current dependence of the recombination-radistion intensity in a p-;n-n+
diode is briefly developed. The lux-ampere and "It-ampere characteristics of the
various diodes were measured as functions of the current and voltage on the diode.

ABSTRACT6. The author describes the experience galved in the high-f)(equency-current
,resistance welding of tubes at the ftLosibirsk Metall9nical Planijby means of a

and powered by a 650 kva high-frequency generator. Normally the,mill Is used to weld
tubes st.current frequencies of 85-105 cps but, in order to Increase themill's
output rate and the quality of the welding of tubas,walding-current frequencies were
experimentally raised to 125 cps &Ads, later on, by further Increasing the motor RPM,
to 130-135 cps. Tubes of the dimensions: 57x3, 6Ox3, 76x3, 830, SUM, and 1020
werelthen successfully welded from hot-rolled pickled skelp. Operational trials re-
vealed the mechanical strength of the 1120-10211 mill to be limited, so that it cannot
be used to weld tubes 4 = thick. The experiments were successful# while at the same

of the primary circuit of the weldlng~transformer to compensate for the losses due to
the rise In inductive resistance in the welding transformer and current leads. The
success of thesemWertments means that the regulation of current frequency can be
dispensed with, which considerably simplifies the design and operation of welding
equipment and reduces the stoppages. In this connectiom, the DC driving motor of the
frequency converter was replaced with an AC synchromotor (60D kW, 6 kv, IODD RM).

TEXT: According to the footnote the term "line" is to be understood in
the title as well as in the further text as "length of the line". The
paper under reviev supplies strict formulas for the connection of arbi-
trarily chosen sections on the air-photograph vith corresponding lines
on the horizontal ground. For the connection of the finite section at the
point of zero-distortion of the oblique air-photograph (Fig. 1) with
the corresponding line on the ground, the authcor develops equation (I).

for the relations of the sections as a special caae, all well-known scale
formulas of oblique air-photographs are obtained, which previously were
derived for infinitely small sections. In the second part of the article,
the relation of an arbitrarily chosen section on *:he oblique air-photo-
graph to corresponding lines on the ground is discussed. According to
Fig. 2, the section ab is the projection of tho section alb' onto the
principal vertical, and AB the projection onto tho extension of the
principal vertical A'B'. Therefrom formula (II) follows:

TEXT: A device is described (Fig. 1) which is able to produce in tube
samples an alternating moment up to 2500 kgm, with nimultaneous constant
tensile stress up to 20 tons. To produce the torsional moment, the device
with the sample is placed in a common pulsator (e.g. of the Armavirskiy
.Zavod (Armavir Plant)), which is applicable to tranoverse-fatigue testa
at a load up to 50 tons. The sample is fastened by taeans of two
connecting pieces to the mobile holder of the pulsator. Contact loads are
formed during the test on two points which are antinymmetric to the axis
of the sample and thus produce a torsional moment. '2he tensile stress of
the sample is performed by means of a hydraulic apparatus which contains
two pressure cylinders. The quantity of the tensile load is determined

Report on a case of Brenner tumour of the left ovary in a nulliparous woman 64 yr.
of age. Uterine bleeding occurred 18 yr. after the menopause. Besides the Brenner
turnour, an intramural myoma and cystic hyperplastic endometrium with 2 polypi
were found. It is concluded that this tumour was hormonally active.
