ABSTRACT: The author describes an installation for heat treating rollers consisting
of a vacuum tube oscillator, -in automatic kImpering unit and a conveyor-type heat
accumulator. The automatic tempering 4ait"Aonsista of a loading device, inductor,
blower, cam drive and bank. An overall view and the kinematic diagram for the instal-'
lation are given. Thk unit it; built into a transfer machine with a canplete cycle
for roller rinishing.\uProductivity is 50-70 rollers per minute. Heat treatment con-
ditions are as follows: heatJ.ng to a temperature of 900-9200C for 6 seconds for
rollers 14.5 mm in diameter wtd 15 seconds for rollers 18.5 mm in diameter; quenching
in water at a temperature of 1.0-250C for 3-4 seconds for rollers 14.5 mm in diameter
and 6-7 seconds for rollers 16-5 mm in diameter; self-annealing temperitture 100-LIOIC;~__

TEXTs The intoraction between a beam of charged particles and a plasma
has great physical and technical signifiasnon and is therefore subject to
the present study. In a plasma in a magnetic field, an electron beam may
interact with both 3 and H waves. Moreover, parameter resonance may occur
since the arising waves lead to a change of the parameters which Is
periodical In apace and time. When the frequency of the plasma particles
stands in a certain ratio to the frequency of the electromagnetic fI 1d
forming by aelf-modulation of the electron beam when moving through :
plasma, parameter rusonance is possible. This ratio between the frequency

that at certain magretic field strengths the electron beam becomes unstable,
which leads to a widening of the gloving plasma (from 3 to 30 mm) ani a
decreaRe in the beam energy. When the electron beam Was pro-modulated on
a frequency fat instability occurred at four magnetic field strengths

iABSTRACT: A method of generating powerful electron beams ani the use of there beams
to generate large amplitude electrostatic waves and to beat a plarma am described.
The linear betatron constructed for this study consists of an ~1~ron source and an
accelerating section forvied by a power transformer with unity transformation coeffi-
cient. The outline of the design is given in a block diagram and its operation is dis-
cussed. An electric field of 6 kv/cm was achieved in the accelerating section. The
total potential of 200 kv resulted in electron beam currents of 1000 A.- The analysis
of the design has shown that the most suitable source of energy Is a series of capaci-
tors with apark-gap switching. This scheme eliminates synchronization problems and
provides a desirable current pulse. The design reported herc can basicidly nerve as
