SOV11,558-5-12/36 AUTHOR: Perchikhin, K.I. and Tseytlin, V.G. TITLE: a- Devices for Measuring the Mass of Liquids (Poplavkovyyepribory dlya izmcreniya atassy thldholsti) PERIODICAL: Izmeritellnaya tekhnika, 1958, Nr 5. pp 26-1?8 (USSR) ABSTRACT: The paper examines the principles and the construction of a float device for measuring-the mass of liquids. The device consists of a vessel with a neck on which a water gauge is marked, and of a special float. The principle of the device is as follows: When the vessel is filled with a fluid of definite mass, the float cccupies an invariable position with regard to the water mark-irrespective of the liquid's density. The latter-corresponds to the fluid level where j0z f% , where P6 is the density of the fluid. which was used for calibration. When the density changes from Pa to P , the level of the fluid will change a stecific amount in -;-egard to the water mark line. The paper Card 1/2 then develops formulae for calculating these amounts. Float Devices for Measurin&the Mass of Liquids These calculations reveal-that an error of less than 0.05%, with a change in fluid density of not more than 20%, can easily be guaranteed. The error in measure- ment can be reduced to 0.01% for a.fluid mass of more than 100 g and a density change of not more than 20%. The principle can be utilized for standard and every- day building dosimeters for measuring liquids in units of mass, discrete automatic mass coun-.ers, central pick-ups etc. The paper gives the design for such a device. Dosing apparatus differs from dosimeters only in the use of an automatic dosage devilce, consisting of induction coils which track the position of the float, contacts which activate the cut-olf valves, by- pass tubes etc. The author has constructed a dosimeter for measuring a liquid mass of 500 g. Experiments have shown that the maximum.error when measuring the mass of various fluids (water, kerosene and gasoline) does not exceed + 0.15%. There are 2 diagrams and 1 Soviet Card ~2/2 reference. On a Discovery of Alkaline Gabbroids in the Alaysko-Turkestans- kaya Alkaline Province (0 nakhodke shchelochnykh gabbroidov v Alaysko-Turkestanskoy shchelochnoy provintsii) PERIODICAL: Doklady Akademii nauk SSSR, 1959, Vol 126, Nr 5, PP 1084 - 1085 (USSR) ABSTRACT: The rocks of the series~mentioned in the title are very rare, and were found in the mentioned province only in 1957-58 when the Zardalekskiy intrusive complex was closely investigated. It is situated on the middle course of the river Sokh in the midst of carbonate Silurian deposits. This intrusion has several phases and a comnlicated structure. The alkaline gabbroids are represent- sed by se'~eral varieties. Thus, theralite-gabbro, teschenites as rell as analcite-monzonites are bound to the 1st phase (con- sisting of eucrites and monzonites). Essexites were found among the rocks of the 2nd phase (melanocratic syenites). The 3rd phase consists of nepheline- and sodalite-syenites. The authors .-ive a detailed description of the alkaline gabbroids together with all varieties mentioned. Table 1 brings the chemical ana- lysis of the rocks of the Zardalek intrusion (according to A. N. Card 1/2 Zavaritskiy). Finally, it should be mentioned that the vein de- On a Discovery of Alkaline Gabbroids in the AlayBko- 30-1/2o-126-5-48/69 Turkestanskaya Alkaline Province rivatives of the ma~matic center (dolerites and monzonites) are very similar to the rocks of the 1st phase. Bostonites and syenite-porphyries correspond to the syenites of the 2nd phase. On the other hand, no vein varieties of the series of alkaline gabbroids were found in the area of the intrusion and its halo. This establishes a correlation Detveen the formation of the mentioned rocks and the assimilation processes of carbonite ma- terial by magma and a differentiation in situ. There is 1 table. This torque is proportional to the dif- ference of formula (1). According to (1) the batteries of the Ha"J.1 emf transmittero are mounted in a recess in the stator. Ea,~h (;f them ia situated symmetrically in zelation tc. t-he iragr.,3tic lon,-itudirial axes of any two phases of the stator wi-ndint~. The elimination of the first harmonic of the rotating, nagnetio field takes place in accordance with the method of the harmonic analysis accordingto the PerrifcLmulae kRef 10). The choice of the nu:nber of trantimitters in each battery depends on the winding,,.data, of th~',, machine and on the necessity of eliminating the highest harmonies of the magnetic f~`eld up to the harmonics of sufficiently high order. The transmitters in each battery urast be evenly spaced. The %#wo possible case3 are indicated. The utmost accuracy is achiev- ed when the transinitter is mounted on each tooth on the length of a pole pitch, The transmitters are supplied by current Uransformers ,.cnnected to the phases A and B. Gives feeding and positionin-- the transmitters. The disturbances are inves- tigated. T, In spite of all tests parasitic emfs and the emf of the mutual inductance appear. The first mentioned ones require the insertion of filters into the Hall circuit. Ele-trical Machines Using Hall-Effect EMP Transmitters magnetic torque by means of film transmitters of the Hall emf can be done by usin-- the above described method at synchronous and induction machines. In references 7 and 8 methods were published permittingthe /measomp - .- bn~ electromagnetic mo- ment of d.c. machines by means of Hall-(Kholl) EMP battery transmitters and to produce oscillograms. The following theo- retical considerations were the premise for this generalization: It can be shown that the electromagnetic moment of a.c. machines is proportional to M k(il where M denotes the e = A 3 - YA)' e electromagnetic moment of the machine, k a proportionality fac- tor, i A and iB the instantaneous current values in the phase A Card 1/4 and B, respectively, and 'A and IB the instantaneous values of SOV/57-28-9-23/33 Oscillographing the Electromagnetic Moment of Alternating Current Machines V~ith Hall-EMP Battery Trarismittora the magnetic fluxes in each phase which are genurated by the phases A and B. In order to obtain the instantaneous values of the magnetic fluxes in each phase the Hall-EUP film batteries were placed symmetrically at the inner stator surf-ace in the (longitudinal) magnetic axes of the respective phases, The number of cells in the battery is determined by the require- ment to exclude the highest harmonics of the rotating magnet-1c field and is dependent upon the winding lay-out of the machine. In this investigation each battery consisted of three Hall-EMF transmitters. They were placed each at an 'ingle of 60 electric degrees. The middle transmitter was located immediately at the phase axis. In order to exclude the first harmonic of the oom- ponent of the rotating e.'Lectromagnetic field such a current was admitted by the middle tra."mitter of eaoh battery as to raise the sensitivity of this transmitter (such a distribution of the sensitivities follows from the Fourier (Furlye) formula) to twice that of-the side transmitters. If the transmitters are. placed in such way the instantaneous values of the projection I -1a of the vector I of the first harmonic of the rotating magnetic Card 2/4 field upon the corresponding axis are mea.suredthat is to say SOV/57-23-9-234/33 Oscillographing the Electromagnetic loment of Alternating Current I 1-1ith Hall-EMP Battery Transmitters the instantaneous values of the flux coupled with the winding of the respective phase. These quantities are multiplied bYl the instantaneous values of the phase currents. When two transmitter outputs are counterbalanced the alternating com- ponento of the Hall-OW cancel whereas the constant components add and provide signals proportional to the electromagnetic moment. It is necessary to use batteries with an equal overall sensitivity. At present a study is being made to reduce the noise to a minimum, and to design a filter with a narrow resonance band. Detailed results of this paper and the description of tki'~ method will be published later. The Head of the Laboratory A. R. Regell discussed the work with the authors. V. N. Yereireyeva and A. P. The most important advantages offered compared to monocrystalline transmitters are the elasticity of the film transmitters and their thinness. iroduction of the film transmitters of Hall's (Goll) electrQmotive force and the manner of mounting them c0he pole of the e ectromotor are described. The measuring method, zero compensatfon and the tuning of -~Ihe - transmitters are described. Special methods of compensation are Card 1/4 applied. Zer'o compensation is carried out here by neans of OscillograpbIng the Electromagnetic Moment in SOV/105-56-7-7/32 Electric Direct Current Machinea by Means of the Hall Effect in Swii-Conductox-5 selection of resistance connected between one of the current- -meftd and one of the Hall-method. The interferences are inves- tigated and two ways for reducing the influence of the electro- motive force of the mutual induction are shown: Oincrease in the sensitiveness of the film transmitters and 2) Introduction of a filtrmtin6 ooil into tho 11ti.11 oiroult. Trio rootiltfi obtaint?d by tests are summarized as follows: 1) Oscillographing of the electromagnetic moment of a direct current motor according to the method of the Hall effect in semi-conductor films is possible on principle and gives sufficiently accurate practical results. 2)The semi-conductor transmitters of the Hall e.m.f. are inertialess and the inertia with oscillographing is determined exclusively by the vibrator-characteriatics in the case of lacking of a polishing filter- 3) The transmitters of Hall's e.m.f. (electromotive force)are simple with respect to their manufacturing method and can be produced in laboratories,4) Mounted on electromotors they can be used for years. The Pensi- tiveneso of the transmitters changes at most for 100%. 5) They can be used tightly sealed and in a humid medium. G) According to Card 2/4 this method, the electromagnetic moment of the electromotor Oscillographing the Electromagnetic Moment in SOV/105-58-7-7/32 ff -i to .Electric Direct Current Nachines by Means of the Hall Effect in Sem -Conductyrs can be zii, aaured both with dynamic and static operation. 7) Hillls:electromotive force 'can be applied as continuous electri- cal factor systems of automatic regulation. 8) The methods of approximated integrating of the magnetic flux can be applied for the measurement of the summary value of the fields which are nonuniform with respect to their longitudinal dirGction - on important surface. 9) The method of oScillographing the electromagnetic moment by means of film-sha-ped Hall-transmitters may be applied with both synchronous and as,~nchronous machines. A.R.Regel',Doctor of Physico-Mathematical Sciences and I.A. Matus, Engineer, have been interested in the work. N.A.Bezo- brazov rendered technical assistance in carrying out the tests. PERIODICAL: Zhurnal Tekhnicheskoy Fiziki, 1957, Vol.. 271 Nr 7, pp-1595-1596 (USSR) ABSTRACT: Not monoerystals but thin semiconductor-films of mercury selenide or mercury telluride were here used as sensitive transmitters of the Hall-EMK. The magnetic permeability of the air was assumed equal to one. At first only one film was used, as the authors assumed that below the center of the pole shoe the magaetic induction is proportional to the total magnetic flux. But as this is not accurate the attempt was made, for the purpose of obtaining exacter measurements, to perform an approximate integration of the magnetic flux according to one of the mathematical formula with the aid of several transmitters that were fixed along the pole and Card 1/2 connected with the battery. It is assumed that the error Oscillo',rraphic Measurement of the Electromaenetic 57-27-7-2T/40 Moment of a Direct-Current Motor With the Aid of Film Transmitters of the Hall-EMF of measurement is not above 5 %- Satisfactory results were already obtained with three film transmitters. The tests made show the possibility of the use of thin semiconductor-films in the measurement of the electromagnetic moment of a direct-current motor in the case of transition- and static methods of operation.
