ABSTRACT: Forty male Wistar albino rats, 4-6 months old and weighing )60-180 9,
were divided Into four groups and su,ijected to mechanical vibration (5 cycles/sec.,
20 mm amplitude) on a level surface for the following periods: Group I - none
(control); Group 11 2 hours, single application; Group III - 2 hours daily for
two days; Group IV 2 hours daily for six days. The animals were then killed
by decapitation. Toltal protein was measured by the biuret method and the protein
fractions by paper electrophoresis on Whatman no. 2 paper at pH 8.6. Employing
the control-animal values to represent the Initial state of all animals, the fol-
lowing changes were recorded with lncrea!;Ing durations of mechanical agitation."

ABSTRACT: A report on an experimental investigation dealing with the strength

deformalbility of the WCs. This proporty, however, is restored by smoothing or
repairing the gougings by welding as viell as by grinding and subsequent welding of
regions of incomplete penetration. Fatigue tests were carried out oil flat speci-
mens and on models of wide-flanged I-beams. The specimens were subjected to
pure flexure in a symmetrical loading cycle. It was concluded that the aw of a
butt weld with a gouging is reduced to 30%, an() that of a butt weld with incomplete
penetration, to 4056 of its normal value. Grinding off or welding of gougings and
rewelding of zones of incomplete penetration restores the strength of the connec-
tion.
